has anyone put a headunit into their glove box. i have a VH and want to leave to original tape deck where it is, as i am trying to keep the stock look. i think i will have to do some cutting but i am hoping its been done before so i can get pointers. or does anyone know if i can get some pro to do it in sydney?
cheers

Haven't done it, don't know if anyone has either. But all you'd need is fix a solid metal brace for the HU to sit it so that it doesn't go anywhere. Alot of people have their car pc's in the glovebox. But then the wiring shouldn't be too bad, just shift over 8 inches or so, but some of the cabling might have to be extended, and you obviously won't be able to use the old tape deck anymore, it'll be purely ornamental.
yeh its gonna take some work i reakon, i would look at replacing all the stereo wiring. i think it is neat to keep the stock deck from memories sake. it doesnt even have a brand name on it just HOLDEN. hahaha
not hard at all really... fabricate some mounting brackets to hol the HU in pace in side the glove box. THen just extend the wiring loom to the new location. You could use a series of switches to allow use of both HU's. I did it when i ran 2 HU's in my VN.

Wouldn't a better idea sk00bs to say remove the original head unit and keep it in the garage or something and install a cd player? Then if you need to show off your car as an original, you could always pop the original unit back in. If you were wanting to keep it original with the head unit, then busting the glove box would basically be ten times worse than swapping a unit over.
IN the glove box is a MUCH better place! you cant see it then. The idea is to keep the car stock.. well looking it anyway. My mate had an XY GTHO. Same deal. Looked Sweet. Classic in looks, yet amazing power.

anyone got any pics?
Yeah pictures would be great!! I've been thinking about doing this for a while but I've been waiting to see someone else thats done it first![]()
I highly doubt if many people ever chuck it into the glovebox, so i doubt there are many pics floating around. Most cars that are good enough for people to chuck the H/U in the glovebox, the rest of the car usually gets photographed, not what's in the glovebox![]()

Actually a theif goes straight to the glove box for several reasons including boot release to steal your amp and subs, loose change, any other items valuable. If your HU was in there it would be nice and easy for them. You really don't need to bother. Just take the face off if you are worried.
An old mate of mine hid his flash as HU in the g/box of his Hoonda Civic, so given that a Commy is a much better car than anything from Japan I would say that putting an HU in the commy g/box would be easy peasy ya?

thanks jimboss for informing us that there are minimal pics floating around that is a massive help.
and if a theif is stealing loose change out of my glove box he can help himself to my h/u while he is at it, just as long as he doesnt take my car, slim!
Just telling it like it is, nothing wrong with that. But as previously stated, if would be a simple job to undertake, just fabricate a suitable mounting bracket, and extend the wires from the original H/U. If you were wanting both units to work, then the switches idea would be the way to go.
Sorry if i came across as being a ****, but i thought i'd just say the truth, i've never seen a pic of the H/U being in the glovebox, but ofcourse, i have not seen every pic out there, so i wish you the very best of luck finding that sort after picture.
no worries mate i was just having a laugh...kinda. i must be suffering from PMS.
i think i will put some pics up later on and show everyone my rusting vh sl/e
