Default late gear change - vh

well, i just had my car tuned, so she's runing good, now this is my first car, and i dont drive it much ( on my lerners )

    anyway,
i got a mate to take it out for a spin,
hit the highway and sped things up a little,
now, the car is an auto, but while driving, it stays in first gear, and changes to second around 70-80k's/ph.
happens if your off the line flat foot, or jsut cruising along... so yeah..

just thought this was a bit late, and might it peek out the enigine too much?
is it normal in a vh? sl/x
    any advice would be great

The hose going to the vacuum modulator on the trans has probably fallen off. The small hose at the back of the inlet manifold is the one to check, it should go into a small pipe which runs back to the vacuum modulator at the back of the transmission. There is a short piece of vacuum hose that joins the pipe to the vacuum modulator as well. If the hose is connected ok then take it off both ends and see if you can blow through it . Sometimes the pipe gets blocked with oil and crap. If the pipe has oil in it then the vacuum modulator diaphram has a hole in it which will let your engine suck all the trans fluid out and burn it in your engine, as well as making gearshifts late, so the modulator will need to be replaced.
