Default Reduction / Hi Torque Starter Motors

Hi, I just replaced the extractors on the son's VK V8 Calais. The starter motor now is too close for comfort. The solenoid is just about touching the pipes. Can anyone advise me where I can get hold of a smaller or modified starter motor that can fix this problem. I do not think there is enough room to even put a heat shield on. thanx in advance

Do the VT 5.0L starters fit the old holden 6's as well? Or just the old 8's?

Holden 5L starter will fit holden 5L only and will not fit a 202 without searious mods.

Anyway why would you need to worry about that? A 1.4kw bosh starter will turn over a hot 202 not problems. (Shameless plug Im selling one) .

    cheers

Ah ok, it's just I'm rebuilding my motor and I thought an upgraded starter motor would be a good thing to do while I'm there, that's all haha.

My motor use to leak oil like a siv, so my starter motor is pretty dirty and I wanna paint it. Maybe I'll see if I can pull it to bits so I can clean the outside and paint it....can't really do it as a whole coz I don't wanna get crap inside it.

The Hi Torque types are much betta, more easily fitted & require less space.I had the new smaller type starter installed wif the new engine. There wasn't alot of room under the extractors wif the old barge sort one on & most of them by now would be as powerful as an electric shaver thru age & wear.A must purchase if your considering fitting a new set of extractors. To me they go hand in hand, new starter, new extractors....

Hi, thanks for all the feedback. It turned out that he starter on the car was out of a later model anyway. After some rediculous pricing and quotes I have ended up with a reduction starter (basically the same body) with an offset solenoid. These units are made with the view that as cars get older and people replace standard exhausts with aftermarket headers as the genuine is getting harder to find. All up, the starter was $230 exchange. Given that I was quoted up to $490 I am happy to have something that works straight up and solves my problem. cheers
