Hey all
**Highway use-only not City**
how many K's are we all getting out of our tank? and at what speed? is she efi? or carby? manual / auto?
My first trial on a trip i ended up getting over 410k with 55 dollars of juice..
Plus the exhaust had some leaks, but there almost fixed.. shes a carby, auto, non rebuilt motor.. last of the VC's to be made
Overall my aim is to try and get 450k or more if posible with the mods i have planned...
Cheers..
I got 350 with a full tank in my old vh. But that had a worked motor, holley, stall and higher ratio gears, traumatic to![]()
I just had a look in the logbook for my old VB commodore.
The best run i had was from Brisbane to Hervey Bay and return with a distance of 583Kms. This used 58.94 Litres with an average consumption of 10.1L/100Km.
The car had a Red 202 with a trimatic and low ratio diff. The trip was done at night time and travelled at between 90 and 100 Km/h from memory.

Best Hot EFI 202 -12L/100km cruising @approx 110km/hr on a trip, 98 RON Fuel, with a 3.08 diff & T5 5 speed.
Worst 25L/100km around wakefield park running 103 RON AVGAS, same diff & gearbox.
cheers
Scott
Loads of VB-VK information, All you need to know about EFI 5L Conversions Ultimate EFI 5L Conversion resource "
Wanted B Cast Heads PM for details
Used to get 10L/100km cruising at 100km/hour with the old 3.23 open ender.
Now it flutters between 11L and 12L under the same conditions with a 3.45 vlt lsd.
Mild 202 with the borg warner 5spd, running 98ron bp ultimate the last few tanks.
Chews like anything when given some revs around town. I'll be interested to see what happens after the microtech goes in this week, expecting slightly better cruising consumption.
I beat the holley casued that mate, thats why im not going near one of those...
Did she have a standard exhaust?
I like the sound of that mate Niccee![]()
Yeah im using a 95Ron atm between 12/10L - 90/100K, might give 98 a go soon that stuff cost to much and e10 is crap![]()
Do u have an electronic fuel pump?
Yep Goon, its an EFI 202. Should have said that.

Yeah i found that i was wasting more juice around town due to one part of the varajet, a hose that comes from the carby setup to suck in air from the filter. but by blocking this i have gained vaccum = more speed more vaccum = quicker accel !!! saved fuel for city runs, other then that i havent had any other problems with my carby.
I removed that choke to and replaced a nut so my aircleaner would seal, i always heat her up every cold start to a point where it was the same as the choke was on before., so i dont damage her radi core
Carby's done, next im working on the cooling and improving on the fuel system.
Yea i done the same with the standard carb. Also got rid of the pcv hose.
Nah just left it. Not cool for performance![]()
My Mild EFI 202 running an Autronic ECU 98 bp ultimate, got around 8L per 100K's on the trip to winton raceway, though it used a fare bit more on the track![]()
Just recently I've been getting 6 to 7L per 100km on the freeway at 100km/h, with the Microtech now installed. Averaged 13L per 100km on a trip last night around town, travelling 70km/h most of the time with heavy take offs from lights.
Mild EFI 202, 5spd manual still running BP Ultimate.
lol...I get 55K's from $20.....Ive got da modifications mates......lol
I put a tank of 98ron prem unleaded in today 1 cent diff from 95 ron at a servo i went to...
She ran Swett in the city, improment could be noticed in both preformance and eco on fuel usage. .. reaction with wrx at the lights
98ron seems to be good for the city![]()
95ron for travel looks to be the best option, its cheaper! and u get the bit extra.. not sure if k's would make a diff between the 2 rons on the highway yet with standard carby.

Blue 202, stock standard, carby, in a 1983 VH commodore.
Was getting about 4kms/L in the city on Shell V-power.
Just finished a long trip up to Mt Gambier and back with a few diversions, over 1,000km's at an average of 95km/h got about 10km/L. I was amazed! That was also on shell V-power.
Oh, and it's an auto transmission.
