Default Just a few random questions.....

    hey people,
just a couple of questions that i would greatly apreciate answers to.....

    1) Power Steering
my powersteering does not work unless i give the car revs..... so if i am stationary, it is virtually impossible to turn the wheels unless i rev the engine...also, i am sure that my steering rack is leaking, but the resevoir is always full..... do i need a new pump?

    2) Holley Blue Fuel Pump
sometimes my fuel pump is noisy, sometimes is it completely quiet, as if its not on, and sometimes it is so noisy, you can feel vibrations through out the whole car.... is this normal?

    3) Air Con
does anyone elses car drop in revs when the a/c is switched on, cos mine does!

    cheers
    Have a good one

    Mate,

    1. Yeah sounds like your power steering pump is only half working. I would suggest getting a second hand one and maybe bleeding the rack with the new one. It should all be good. They aren't complex so its just a matter of taking the hoses off and putting a new one in.

    2. Yes some fuel pumps can be noisy. My cousins one you can hear when the ignition is switched. It sort of sounds like a loud PC hard drive ticking. If it annoys you a lot, look around and check out the pumps for sale and ask questions and find one that will be quiet.

    3. Yes, all air con units in cars drop the idle slightly and reduce engine power. When you turn the air con on, the compressor is switched on and it has more resistance which slows your engine a bit. This is completely normal. You usually don't notice it as much for bigger motors but I can sure notice it on my Mum's ricey Lancer!

    Good luck.

Oh and just a stupid question. You are putting auto transmission fluid in the power steering reservoir right?

ok sounds like your pump is on the way out or it has the wrong size pully on it

it will drop revs when the a/c is switched on because it puts more load on the engine
Stato on the inside, berlina on the out side,5ltr under the bonnet, stockies all round...........that thing has to be a sleeper

No joking here! You always use automatic transmission fluid in your power steering or get a bottle of power steering fluid. The power steering fluid like the Castrol stuff is virtually automatic transmission fluid anyway.

It just worries me thinking what some people might do.

Could be modern cars with their computer adjusting the idle when the computer knows the air con is on.
