I have a couple of carbies here for my 253 VH V8 and each seem to have their own sort of problems
Carbie #1 is a pollution quaddy, off of a VK v8 I believe. It has an auto choke, runs fine on gas, however on petrol it seems to flood when its idling and just stalls..any idea what this could be?? Would it need a kit put thru it? Or Is it possible to adjust the mixture screws and such on these carbies and would that fix it?
Also it seems to crank over first time every time, however I don't think the auto choke is working that well as it will kick over and then stall unless I give it some revs and hold it there a bit.. What's the best way to adjust the choke?
Carbie #2 is a non pollution manual choke Quadrajet, not sure what it is off of. Anyway, the choke was removed and is a bitch to start up when it's cold however I thought it wouldn't need the choke and a flat foot when cranking it would get it to start up but no??
Thanks..
Carbi 1. It would be the jet size. This one is for a 308 not a 253. Thats why its flooding the motor. You can get a kit to put though it, smaller jet size.
Carbi 2. Don't flat foot it, just pump a few times before you turn it over, it should fire. Sounds like this carbi is off a HQ type 308.

Not exactly sure if carb 1 is off of a VK v8, though. It's got an auto choke so it's off of one of the early commodores..
100% sure it's the jet size that's making it flood? Cause this carb is in alot better condition than carb 2 and it seems to crank over ALOT easier..
Carb 2 - I've tried pumping it before doing that however it doesn't seem to want to crank instantly, on both gas and petrol (carb 1 cranks straight away on either)
I'd turn the ignition, pump it a few but it won't crank straight away...I thought this is cause the choke was removed...
If this is also off of a 308 how come it's not flooding?
Hmmm carbi 2, good point!. Then again the jets could have some junk in them making them smaller in jet size.
I reckon Carbi 1, its jet size easy. Ppl have the same problems with Holley carbis.
