just got my vh back from the auto electrition and he replaced my starter motor.
the old one was sagging down and apparently damaged my ringgear ( only slightly?) anyway the new starter motor works well, but te sound from the ringear drives me insane, ( when i crank it its LOUD as and it sounds like its going to shoot out of my bonnet )
also while im driving now i hear a wirh ratteling noise from around the starter motor and the alternator, the electrition said it will go away with a bit of time, like when the starter motor "connects itself properly" to the ringgear? ( i was like wtf? )
obviously i have no idea, the dude was dodge, but i was strapped for cash and at least it runs now.
but anybody got an idea of what could be wrong? much appriciated.
considering takeing it to midus in a week or two, get a check on it and a quote of what could be wrong, but untill then im all up for idea's.
The ring gear on the flywheel can be replaced its fairly labour intensive, Gearbox out clutch off, flywheel off.
You then heat the ring gear and pry it off the flywheel, next after the flywheel is cleaned up you heat the new ring gear evenly and press the new ring gear onto flywheel.
You could try removing the clutch inspection place and cleaning the teeth of the ring gear up with a small file removing any burs which are probably making the noise at startup.
Who knows what the rattling noise is but if it wasnt there before the job was done there shouldnt really be anything rattling just after the job has been done. With the engine running and bonnet up I would have a bit of a look around under the bonnet and see if you can see where its coming from.
cheers
Scott
