Hi guys. I'm new to the forumand have had a quick look for thread along this line but had no luck. Basically I just bought a run down VH SS, 4.2ltr, manual, lowered running walkinshaw rims. When I purchased it the gearbox didn't have first, but it took off in second no worries. I accidentally took off too hard and it kicked out hard leaving 2 long black lines behind
. I have since replaced the box, and it now only single spins off the line on semi-hard launches.

My question is: is the diff stuffed and can anything be done to it without a full rebuild? Money is a constraint at the moment as other things need more urgent attention.
Thanks
Love the VH SS's! Good choice, would love to see some pics aye!
About ur diff.....if money is tight just weld it hehehe.

Here are the only pics I have of it. This is the day I bought it.
Yeah pretty sure. Jacked the car up and checked it- if you spin one wheel the other moves in the same direction. Try and hold one while turning the other and it's hard to move! In the wet it lsd's everytime all the way to third gear. Same if I'm on dirt. Just won't do it anymore on the bitumen. I've been told it could be worn out but wanted a second opinion. Not used to diff wearing out- I usually blow them up first!!
Most likely just needs to be tightened man. Not too expensive. $100-$150?
any idea on how to go about it? could I do it or do I need to take it to a specialist?
If you live in Melbourne I can reccomend a good bloke who rebuilt mine. $150 for reshimming it to whatever lock-up you want, new bearings and seals throughout. Fast aswell, about 2 days.
Yeah I'm in Melbourne- Frankston area. That would be great. Thanks for that.
yeah the guy i bought it off was a P-plater and blew up the 308. He put in the 253 so he wouldn't get hassled by the cops too much! can't find the original engine either now!![]()
yeah it would just be worn out, get it reshimmed at the place that wryaza said he sounds to know the guy
my web sitestuff on the XF throttle body conversion, calais interior and lots of other junk!
is it an original SS or a mock up? i'm only saying this because it has no bonnet scoop or kit.
looks pretty sweet with the walky rims though.
Only the HDT grp3's had the kit and bonnet scoop phat_com, the standard Holden SS looks the same as the pics.

A lucky owner of 2 SL/E Commodores, a rare VB SL/E and a 2 tone VC SL/E. Just need a VH SL/E and have the set!
Thanks guys for your help and comments. It is an original SS but ubfortunately was a stolen recover and the ID plates were taken. Has everything SS Though. I only paid $1250 for it! Like I said, it needs a bit of work. I'm currently fixing all the rust in the rear of it and then respraying it. Hopefully I can talk my wife into letting me have her 18" rims off her VR Calais when I'm done with the body work. Will keep you posted.

Fark me!! $1250! Now if that's a genuine SS then u got an absolute bargain, whether it needs a bit of work or not!
Great buy mate. And from the pics it definetely looks like u got ur money's worth.
