I have a 85 VK 202 EFI and i would like to know wot are the best mods to do to achieve the best results in performance. I have been thinking of an engine conversion but i am only on my p's so some V8's arent an option and i dont think a V6 is worth it. Wots u guyz opinions on wot i should do?
Thanx
It depends on the condition, don't want to push it too hard with top end mods if the bottom end's in bad shape otherwise it'll break. If you're looking for some good get up and go extractors and exhaust are a must, but you're also going to want more air getting in there so some sort of intake is essential..
Head work is what you would do next; shaved, ported, polished with oversized valves and stronger springs would go together well and make it get up and boogy. Then you could work on the bottom end and cam work though I'd say that would be one of the last things..
Though don't listen to me, wait for more experienced people to give a better answer![]()
I have an 85 VK efi as well, and have explored all the options. Most of the experienced guys will tell you that it would cost the same to put a V6 in as it will to get a nice tight 202.
Some time back Street Machine did a series called "Grunt Hunt" where they rebuilt a 202 and got near 170kw out of it, it was all bolt on / bolt off stuff, but they must have spent around 3 or 4k doing it, and for that you can get a whole V6 car!
My old girl is pretty mint but I am still seriously considering a V6 conversion - get twice as much go as a 202 and better economy....
Just my opinon.
Like Juzza said tho, you need to help the 202 breathe - port, polish, valves (or a yella terra head), extractors and exhaust.
Also taking off the fan and replacing it with a thermo electric will help.

The EFI 202s already run tube headers AKA extractors so a headers back exhaust would be the way to go. Maybe a cam & head job. Other than that save your money up for when your off your P plates.
The other option is do a Delco computer conversion for the car, this will take a bit of time if you do it yourself but will be very rewarding with power & economy. If your clever enough at doing the install no one really will be the wiser looking at the car that you have done this.
Maybe a manual conversion, VL turbo LSD. Other than that I would spend money on doing the brakes and suspension properly.
Save your money and wait till your off your P plates. Work out exactly what you want and go nuts once your off your Ps. The 202s are dead and not worth spending much money on.
cheers

The delco's I'd say would be the 'budget' upgrade. There's a few aftermarket computers available such as the autronic and haltech, but they'd cost around the $1500 mark for the complete kit I rekon. The delco's u could pull out of a VN as well as the wiring loom, and thats about as much as I know. Dunno how to install the VN loom or where everything goes...I'm like u and are thinkin bout EFI and have only done minimal research (The best way to learn is to do it!).

if you were considering an exgine upgrade but u said no v6 or v8 maybe try a vl rb30
We got rep back, yaaay!
Thanx everyone for ur input. How much power do u reckon the delco conversion would add and how much would it cost?
So the delco is stock in VN? Im trying to figure out whether to keep my 202 efi parts ive got (almost enough to do a efi conversion) or not.. if its the way i think it is i may keep them..
