    Default Diff gears

Just wondering what the difference is between the 8 bolt salisbury's which are sitting behind the 6's and the ol 4's? Are they the same stud pattern?

As they have 3.9 gears, do people look for them? Just wondering coz I'm gonna go pull a heap of bits off some ol' commy wrecks and one of them according to the plates has the 'GU8' axle code, which is for the 3.9 gears.

I don't want them coz we are running borgies, but if someone wanted them I'd pull the diff out and once I got it home I'd pull the gears out and clean them up and sell them cheap to someone if they were lookin for some.

    Cheers,
    Danny

the old 4cyl might have a slightly smaller PCD from memory. i remember a long time ago that a set of 4cyl mags didn't fit a 6cyl commy with the heavy duty salisbury diff (V8)fitted

Hmmm.....I wonder if the gears are the same, like will bolt up to a normal 8 bolt with no drama's, I'm guessing they should. Axle's could also be different tho as well, not 100% sure. If the PCD was different and the same spline axles were used then ya could just use normal Commy 8 bolt axles and put them in. Actually I might ask my uncle I know he used a set in his race car,

If I find out I'll let ya's know.

Ok yes the 4 banger Commodore PCD are smaller, they actually use 13 inch wheel Torana pattern. But as for axle spline, they are the same, all 8 bolt diffs, 4cly or even a 6 are 25 spline axle, only the larger 10 bolt gained the 28 spline axles.

A lucky owner of 2 SL/E Commodores, a rare VB SL/E and a 2 tone VC SL/E. Just need a VH SL/E and have the set!
