    Default VK speedo

    Hi Guys,

Iv'e just finished school and I have just started my real job this week.
I have noticed while traveling the distance to work that I tend to get tailgated really bad and overtaken heaps. I suspect my speedo to be incorrect, does anyone know a way to find out how accurate my speedo is?

Also, with varajet carbs, when the float level is at say 4mm (Don't ask) and the idle mixture screw has been tuned at this level, if the float level was decreased to 8mm will the mixture screw need to be adjusted?

    Thanks

Hey mate don't worry bought the tailgaters.....i was told by a cop once that if u ever hit someone from behind it's automatically ur fault coz u should have been concerntrating on the road and wats in front of u......so just slam on the brakes and hope they have insurance haha. But personally I wouldn't slam on the brakes....if I ever get tail gated alot of the time I slow down slowly, and when they go to overtake I give it some stick and they still end up behind me. But if I'm travelling slow I'll let them passed, but if they're speeding I'll piss them off! Hehehe.

Well my speedo reads slower than its going, when doing 50kph im accellerating away from everybody.
how do I fix that? do I have to replace some speedo gearing or something.
is it in the side of the transmission? cause there is something there, but im not sure.
    can somebody please help.

    Cheers....

Suspect the driven gear on the end of the speedo cable which goes into your gearbox. They can slip! I fixed mine by jamming a toothpick in it! No bull!

what wheels have you got mate? also yeh in 100% of rear end collisions it the car behinds fault, no if buts.

and again on the wheels, if you have changed ur tire profile / diameter then you need o change the speedo driven gear or calibrate ur speedo.

yeh I changed my wheels, I got 235/45R17 instead of the old orignial skinny 14's
how do u calibrate your speedo?
and how do I know what speedo driven gear I should have, how many teeth and what colour should it be? Ive seen all different coloured ones. I think the colours are for the different number of teeth or something.
any information will be helpful thanks.

You are right the different colours relate to the Number of teeth or ratio of the gear and which diff. centre it goes with. If you have a "Measured" Kilometre near home & time how long it takes to travel at a steady speed, say 60Km\hr., should take 60 seconds. Otherwise call in at your nearest speedo repair shop, they can fix it in minutes usually. When it takes us ages to work out, let alone get it right. It's worth the money to know for sure it's right, and not be guessing.
No it's not NOS it's LPG

Yes there is different speed drive gears and driven gears. Depends on the gear ratio of your transmission, diff and tyres used.

To test your speedo use a GPS, make sure its on clear open road no trees, etc to block view to satellites the more you lock onto the more accurate the speed.

The type of gear you need depends on the wheel, diff & gearbox combo you have i have charts on my site. I also have a full range of good condition gears for sale starting at 18tooth up to 24 tooth.

20th (white) ones are still available new.

    cheers
