Default My VK V6 Conversion finished!

Best thing i have ever done brought a wreaked VN out of the trading post slight front and side damage $350 Took all the gear out the wiring i took out intacted made it easy to wire up

Have owned my commodore 4 yrs now brought it for $700 is only an SL but have put a sony stereo, remote central locking, Berlina door skins and HEAPS! of other gear on it Now for the biggest madest change!

were getting so sick of my carb 202 s*** to start in mornings used far too much petrol for the power it put out the last straw was the tappets and starter motor started to go on me so in with the new 3.8 V6

was great taking the engine and all out resprayed my engine bay looks like a newy the v6 vn K-frame bolted straight in no worries, the 4 speed auto is awsome! gear shifter was easy moded i found the wiring pretty easy radiator and all fits good i done all the work myself costed next to nothing the brakes and all are a straight swap aswell pissed off my rusting old brake booster off the vn one is like new!

Thats an awesome job mate! How long did it take you to swap from 202 to v6? I'm thinking about doing it within the next few months but I don't think I can afford to live without a car Also did you get a engineers certificate? How much was it? Sorry for all the questions

Thanks everyone it took about a month on and off. yeah thats the prob having no car! i have another VK and a Hilux that i could drive haha the other VK was dumped here by my brother he brought an AU! YUK! na no engineers certificate yet i dunno if i could aford it, if i get pulled over im gonna be worried! but other than that it runs awsome! haha it spins the wheels so easy! as its lighter than a VN but i dont thrash my car, done the conversion for economy but its a good allrounder engine has loads more power than the 202 did. no worries bout the Questions

http://www.v6conversions.com.au/ has all the parts in a kit, but you do need to source the engine and looms etc. Can't wait to see a V6 in a Gemini, that'll fly

The auto gear box is a straight swap u just need to mod the VN shift rod to fit the vk's gear shift and as for the plastic VN selector i cut it on a band saw to fit the VK console the Exhaust is mainly the VK one that was on it as i just brought it a year ago cutted and welded the flange after the cat to the vk Exhaust but im sure an Exhaust joint could make one up but i try to keep the cost down on things! the speedo drive should work if u have a calais digital dash as the vn auto has a electric sender but you can get a cable made up to fit im useing the standard VK tailshaft and diff at the moment but latter on i shall change it

i reckon about 500 ish for the conversion the wreak car i got was a vn wagon was only $350 the engine is tight as! the only thing was, as it was a wagon the tank was wrong so i had to look around abit couldnt get any at nick a bit haha as they put holes in em to cover there selfs if a fool blows em selfs up, easiest way to drain em i guess, and i had to get a radiator as it was mashed, got it at pick a part hasnt leaked yet! ill get some more pics up of the auto shifter etc i reckon i went ok haha just turned 19 ive started an apprentice at Toyota, is so borring only services mainly haha yeah piss off the 202 sig! were gonna throw the 3.8 badge off the vn on the back of my car but thought nope will only make the cops wanna have a look! id s*** me self will get it engineered 1 day.... Injected 202's are alright but they can either be really good or plain crap can be touchy, the black 202 carbs dont bother! a VB commodore would be awsome! i dont see many VB to VK's much anymore i think its the ageing engines that turn people away these days people seem to just run their cars into the ground n get a newy. personally anything newer than a VK i dont really like.

Cos the my VK has fuel injection, I shouldnt need the tank from donor car eh? Just use the existing fuel lines?

here in SA as long as the fuel filler is smaller too. If its the super one, then it has to be changed.

yeah if your VK is EFI use the tank pump and lines in it but yeah there is an issue with the filler but if worse comes to worse get a vn filler and just change it! or if u havent got an engine yet buy a whole wreaked car cheap as chips! and u will have everything u need the tanks are interchangeable but its gotta be sedan to sedan & wagon to wagon
