Default VK Sailsbury Disc Rear Diff. - they worth anything????

are they rare? what are they worth? will the brakes from the vk sals disc rear fit onto a hz sals diff with the wb disc axels.

also is it right that the genuine vk disc rears have the same handbrake style as the vn's. ie they have a small drum brake for the handbrake inside the disc?

    cheers!

OK first off, is this an 8 bolt or a 10 bolt Sals diff?. To tell the difference is look at the diff cover, if its round its an 8 bolt, if it has an egg shape, a 10 bolt diff.
Yes a VK Sals diff does have a handbrake as the VN, small drum inside the rotor, infact all disc brake diffs in Commodores has this.

I think from memory, I got mine from RVK-355 4 120(??). It was just missing the handbrake outer retaining bracket that bolts onto the backing plate. Only prob was it was a sedan diff and I wanted a wagon 1, so I removed the sedan shock mount brackets-not the whole lower control arm bracket(cut off with an angle grinder and cleaned it up with a linisher, and carefully removed the shocker brackets from the wagon 6 diff and high tensile bolted to the locating holes on the V8 sedan 10 bolt diff. Commos and HQ/WB have different stud pattern, so you'd have to get the axles done to commo PCD (5x120)or the discs redone to suit the HQ/WB pattern(easier) 5xsomething imperial??), but the whole set up'd bolt straight on, as I trail fitted commo discs to my old GTR torana with the banjo diff and no probs except the stud pattern, even though I already had HQ stud pattern axles/HQ Drum rear(Oh, and the hand brake cable.)

yeh its a 10 bolt. 3.08 ratio. non lsd. i have a HZ with a 10bolt that i want to fit the brakes to. what im thinking of doing is doing up a diff. i was going to get a hz ute housing only. and fit the 3.08 from the vk sals into the hz housing. then use wb stato disc rear axles. and the vk rear discs and calies. i know all about booster/master and prop valve and also the caliper maybe hitting the springs in the hz ute. (have lowing blocks so it shouldnt)

    my questions are:
    1. is the 10bolt VK 3.08 centre the same as a 10bolt hz 3.08 centre? ie will it bolt into the HZ housing.
    2. will the wb stato 10bolt axels slide into the vk 10bolt 3.08 centre?
    3. what is the different between vk rear discs/calies and vn rears disc/calies? i see that vk calies is girlock and vn is pbr. whats better? is there any real differance???
apart from that i think its sussed.

Only problem is that utes diffs are usually leaf springed, the sedan with coil springs.
But here is some answers that i think are 100% correct.
    1. Yes they are the same size centres. So it should fit onto the HZ housing.
    2. Again yes, both should have 28 spline axles, so they will slide in.
    3. No difference really. I think Girlock was either renamed PBR or sold out to PBR. The look the same, act the same, most likely have the same bolt holes too. Its only the VP ones at the front are different, more a VL Turbo/V8 finned cailper.

Hope this is good info of what you need.

    cheers!
yeh got the leaf spring setup sussed thats no worries. thats why im going to get a ute/pano diff housing to make things easier and look neater =). also the vk ones are shorter than the hq-wb diffs.
also have the stud pattern differance sussed thats no worries.
    cheers for the input.

    ummmm
    just a thought
isn't the HZ/WB rear axle longer (wider) than the commie
one...so aren't the Holden axles longer than the the
    VK ones?

    worth checking...or I may be 100% wrong

im not using the vk commie diff housing or axles.
all im using for the vk diff is the centre and also the brakes and brackets and calipers. (getting my own braided lines made)
im using a hz ute diff housing. also using wb stato rear disc axles as i think it gives me more clearance.
oh n thats why in my above post i said "the vk ones are shorter than the hq-wb diffs." lol. =p
    cheers anyhow bud!
