Gday all, I want to pull out the tired 6 in my vh and drop in a 308, is the K frame thats present in the car would the 308 fit it.
cheers
John
Yes. But do you really want to do it? You would also need to change the gearbox, tail shaft, brakes and diff.
The reason I ask about you doing it, is because I know from experience what sort of work is involved. You would be a lot better off buying a 308 VK or VB or even a 253 VH and transferring any bits over to the new shell. There is a lot of options. Let me know what your plans are and I and others will give advise.![]()
I may have some parts that are of interest to anyone here. VH SLX 4.2L v8 LPG automatic transmission, Last 2 yrs New Pwer steering rack, New Water Pump, New Alternator, New Brakes (all 4 wheel disc), and suspension.
(Brand New Tyres). 1 yr ago New Inlet Manifold.
I thought you needed to change the k-frame..
Ive learned something.. let me know how it goes.. wouldnt mind doing something similar in the future..

k frame is the same but the mounts maybe different? i forget lol
(i have done it before) it's not that hard to do especially if you already have motor and box. Motor and gear box straight fit, just gotta get tail shaft modded, V8 radiator, brake booster, exhaust obviously. from memory cost me less than $1000 buying every thing new, but doing all the work myself. oh and i run the 6 cylinder diff for ages before it gave up on me

has anybody put a stroked 350 chev (383) in a vh im lookin to do this but im not sure wat i have to do for it to work thanks
changing from a 6 to an 8 is pretty easy this is the second one i am doing . No need to get the tail shaft modded . Will be cheaper and easier to get one from a wrecker . Change to the bigger brake booster . 4 wheel disc brakes , radiator exhaust and some pills to relax the big smile you'll have once it's going![]()
Putting a chev into a early girl commodore is not cheap, not easy and may not pass engineering/rego

A lucky owner of 2 SL/E Commodores, a rare VB SL/E and a 2 tone VC SL/E. Just need a VH SL/E and have the set!
? front struts are different 6 to 8 right? and the K frame has the engine mounts welded on it. i assumed they were different. so the 202 uses a 90 degree mount?!?!
exactly the same k-frame between 6cyl & 8. No need to change it. I did the swap on my last VH. Engine dropped straigh in.
Only difference in the mounting is the rubber engine mounts themselves. Just buy a pair of V8 mounts, bolt them on and you're done.
Struts are the same, just the springs are different if they are standard 6 cyl springs. Otherwise if aftermarket springs are fitted, they are usually the same.
It's a really easy conversion. The V8 engine harness just plugs straight in where your 6 cylinder harness was. If you keep the smaller 6cyl diff, there is no need to change the tailshaft
