Default A question regarding ignition leads

    Hey All

I know for starters i should have a full set of the same leads but here's my question.

I installed my old topgun leads to replace my bosch leads as i noticed number 1 cylinder had a shait connection.

The sound difference on iginition from bosch vs topgun is so much more different, the topgun makes her sound so much beefy'er.. My problem is number 6 topgun lead happen to break its connection from wire to connection point and ive made number 6 lead run off a bosch lead while the rest are top gun leads.. this should be fine in the longrun?

    Thanks.

Now bosch is crap with leads as well as there plugs...!

There is quite a big difference between quality leads and crap leads.

Good quality leads will vastly improve spark giving better, more efficient fuel burn = more power.

Personally I use Magnecor leads, they have a proven race history along with proven reliability. Ever seen a car do a million KM on the same set of leads?

For info have a look at the american magnecor website www.magnecor.com for loads of technical info. The Autralian distributer for magnecore leads is Thundercords www.magnecor.com.au . you can purchase leads directly from them they are at Granville ask for Neil.

Otherwise a bosh lead should get you by till you buy some decent leads.

    cheers

hmmmm. Not sure if I agree there, but I have had on my 308 Repco branded (red) leads and Top Gun leads (now) and haven't noticed a single difference between the two. I only got the Top Gun leads because they were at about half price retail being sold on ebay.

Maybe if you spent ten grand into a motor it would be worth spending tons of money on ignition components, but this is just what I have found anyway!

Ignorance is bliss When I had my hot 202 running high energy coils I used to fry 8mm repco leads, I had cross fire between leads, radio interference the works. Switching to high quality leads solved the problems.

You know what leads are mainly run on a sprint car outlaw engine? 2 types MSD or Magnecor, V8 Group As? Commodore cup? all the same.

They money spent on a decent set of leads is worth it

    cheers

Maybe I couldn't see any difference because my ignition coil is the standard coke can one and not an electronic one.

Best to give Neil a call depends on size 8mm or 8.5mm ones are good for most applications and did my 202 just fine. Also depends on length & connectors/boots used.

    cheers
