    Default Wheel Nut Torque

Anyone know the correct wheel nut torque for a VK?

I just got a cordless rattle gun & don't want to overtighten them.

    thanks.

Just do them up with a wheels brace.

only use the rattle gun to undo them when taking them off.

Actual Torque wrench specs are 101-108Nm or if your old school 75-80lbs.ft.

    cheers

Indeed, I trust as Scott says.

On a side note, there has only been one tyre joint that i really thought very well of. That was a country town tyre joint in Victoria.
These guys did up the nuts loosely and then did them up with the hand bar.

Last time I undid my back tyre, it was the biggest bastard to get off. The dills at Bob Jane and I am sure tons of tyre joints do the same, use their rattle guns to do up the nuts. How the heck is anyone especially a granny supposed to undo the nuts? They can be so damn tight when done up with a rattle gun. I wish they wouldn't do it, but it's easier for the tyre joint so what do they care?! Gah.

Oh, yes. That reminds me. I heard some guy on the radio talking about wheel nut tightness a few months back. Basically the correct tightness is do the nut up until the nuts sit to the hub and then about 1/3 turn or so or until it's tight. Like tighten it but don't use superman strength to try and overtighten it. Whenever I have done my nuts up, I do the usual cross tightening, and then I tighten until it's tight. It's not like your wheels are going to fall off! haha

Better having it too tight rather than too loose

I had my back wheel come off doing 80. Although its my fault for not checking them. I never trust anyone with something like that, and the one time i do they come loose.

Although i did have a thick as bricks guy do the nuts up with a rattle gun, even after he was told to do them by hand (not a tyre shop) was just lucky i heard the 2nd one snap and managed to stop before all 5 were gone.

i always use a torque wrench when doing up my wheel nuts, 105nm. i use a rattle gun to get them upto the wheel quick but always usethe wrench to tighten etc. there is one tyre shop that alsways does the same, problem is i think there wheel balancing is shoddy so i don't use em anymore

Thanks Scott that is very helpful. The reason i needed to know is I am going to get a torque extension bar in that rating. The shaft flexes when the torque rating is reached so no more overtightened nuts.
