    Default Balanced bottom end

Went out to Richard's Motors 2day and sussed out my motor coz they got it back yesterday. I got a few things done including getting the bottom end balanced.

I always thought that to balance the gear, (ie, crank) ya weld bits on, but mine has had holes drilled in it, is that the right way of doing it? My flywheel also has a few holes drilled in it. Not all the way through, just part way.

I'll get some pics up soon to show ya's

Well thats the way theyre doing it, theyre taking the lightest point of mass and making everything else equal. Its cheaper in the sense that adding mallory metal is more expensive. Nothing wrong with a slightly lighter crank.
Theyve done a good job on that block by the way.

Thx mate, I just thought that by drillling holes it would make it weaker. I'm not sure where the boring and balancing was done. It was suppose to go to Chris Milton but they sent it to someone else in Adelaide, not sure who.

Chris Milton quoted $192.73 to bore the bores out 130tho to fit my new 186 flat tops, and to balance the crank assy he quoted me $169.09.

I took it to a local place here which were gonna send it away to get the work done, and when they got it back they gotta do a few small things as well then it will be ready to start putting back together. But they sent it to the wrong person...grrrrr. As it's their stuff-up, I'm not gonna pay any extra, I'm still only gonna pay what Chris Milton quoted, as I gave them the quote and asked them to send it there, but something went wrong and the wrong place got it. But awe well, the work is done and that's all that matters. I'm not gonna make a big deal out of it coz the people who made the stuff-up have always been very kind to me.

Hey just wondering if cranks have the drill holes in them from factory? I picked up an EFI 202 short motor which was a Southcott's rebuild, and the crank has some of those drill holes as well. Does this mean that the crank has been balanced, or do all cranks have them? Also, the EFI 202 had starfire rods in them hey?

Yo man did u get the crank shaved back? maybe to improve high end torque? im looking at doing that to balance out the power .. low and high end can't go wrong there!

I'm pulling my engne out in a few months time, getting her rebuilt in only a few days by myself if i can Though im going to get the block acid dipped like your's, it turned out sweet!

Would u know if sandblasting does a good job on other parts, such as against rust for a certai amount of time? - i'm paint my new rebuild't engine anywayz

Nah nothing extra has been done to the crank, just balanced. I've been told to polish up the journals ho, so will prolly do that as well.

If I had all the money up front mine would of been done in a few days as well.....but I've prolly spent close to 2k all up on my whole car so far, and still need to get new suspension and a few bits and pieces.

Also just looked at a VK wags which we should be able to pick up for $300. It's complete, but the motor is a bit oily, and the lady owners seems to have been running it low on oil for some time haha.....but yeah thinkin bout getting that and puttnig my running gear in it....dunno yet tho.
