It can be done but is it worth while? For the money spent have you considered a V6 conversion? You can pick up a VN now for around $500.

If couldnt be bothered converting it what makes you think 'just chucking on a turbo' will be any easier? I think there is a lot more work involved in turbos especially on a carby car.

u will need to do the efi conversion. flat out it will be so much easier if u want to turbo it. then u need fuel pump and reg. then the manifold turbo fmic piping new exhaust ecu to run the efi then u need to get it all tuned up.

easier option is a stuper charger. instant power lot less work just need to adapt caby fuel pump and reg less piping braket and belt new air box and a pod

    just sumfin to think about

for example, the vl turbo was a holden only engine. it wasn't just a nissan engine with a turbo bolted on. the engine had completely different interals. the vl turbo output was 147kWs (i think) compared to stanard 114kWs. vns were 127kWs. you would be better off to spend your money on something newer with more hp output.

I rekon u should. The old Holden 6's are a good starting point when playng with motors. They are very basic and are easy to work on. At the end of the day youd be better off with a V6 conversion if u want power, but if u want to learn I rekon it would be a good project to start with. Well maybe first rebuld the motor, then look into chucking a turbo on. Or like brohawk said, maybe a supercharger. If u can weld, get urself a SC14 supercharger and fab up some brackets and bolt it onto the side of ya motor and go from there. You can keep ya carby as well, altho the EFI will give better results.

    possibly something like this?

you have to decide whether you want to run an intercooler or not, the pic i attched is a draw-through setup, you cant run an intercooler like that but if you want it intercooled go for a blow-through setup.

im not sure on the pos/neg of each but i cant imagine it would be too difficult to get either of them working/tuned properly with the carby.

if you want to go turbo go buy a garrett strata kit these are good bang for buck they are a draw thru (carby) and do give out a bit of poke

I was thinking it would be easier to put a holley carby or similar on for greater fuel delivery, then stick ya turbo on and tune it up...

Also, Holden actually put out a limited run of turbocharged blue 202 motos in the VC's.

I remember reading the Wheels article where Peter Robinson tested the car.
It had 130kw, he reckoned it was a great tow vehicle.

you would definately need to go bigger carby, but i would get it professionally jetted for forced induction etc..
