    Default 173 head onto 202?

    Hey guys

Was thinking of fitting a 173 head to my blue 202. Now, the car is on lpg, so upping the compression thru the head change will up power yes? Any other advantages?

    Cheers

if you to run high compression and gain power i would be looking for a yella terra head....most wreckers can source them pretty easily theres a few at my local

I don't think it will fit as the red and blue motors have different water jackets.

The blue 202's have 12 port heads, as do the blue 173 heads. Yes they are interchangable, and no u don't need to worry bout water jackets or anything, just bolt on and away u go.

I'm not sure how much of a difference it would actually make...I put my stock (except crow springs) 173 HC head on our old crusty 202 in the SKiDWAGON and that pulled decent one wheelers, 3rd gear sittin on 140k's to be exact, smoke was pourin out...near new BFG 215's lasted under 2 minutes.

I'm not sure if this is correct, but apparently LPG has a pretty high octane level (as in more then 100 ron), and not many people bother to use it to their advantage, but apparently LPG can be pretty good if ya motor is built right. But if it was any better then methanol I guess they'd be using it for strip cars and the like.

Thanks.. was thinking of getting a 173 head, porting and polishing then running it on my 202 with lpg.. tuned more toward power than economy

you will need to install hardened valve seats if you are going to run gas and have the Dizzy regragh due to higher compression

Definately get your dizzy re-graphed for lp-gas. They just put in some lighter springs so the advance comes in earlier. Also there is no need for hardened valve seats if you run an upper cylinder lube kit. Make sure you feed it in under the carby, not at the brake booster connection.

Yeah I know the red motors are only 9 port...I said blue 202's are 12 port, and so are the blue 173's. All blue (and black) motors have the 12 port head, and all red have a 9 port.

I'm planning on chucking a 2.85 on my 202 soon as i got it from work and it has oversized vavles and a few other mods i'm pretty sure it 'll be a bolt on procedure.
Can anyone clarify the whole "dizzy regraph" issue?. I assumed it would simply need to bee readjusted to suit.
