Oh the V8 alternator isnt a straight bolt up, your best to use a V6 one and change the pully, else if you use the V8 one you will need to 180 the housing so the connector is on the correct side.
As for wiring it up you have 3 wires
Charge wire - 12+ to the battery
Charge light 12+ to dash light - very impoortant else it wont charge
the other wire from memory is 12+ which goes to the battery as well.
The connector to use is a fuel injector plug it will go straight onto the alternator.
cheers

Yeah cool. Thanx Scott. I've got the VP waterpump, balancer pullies and alt brackets on the car(hooked up to the old blue 6 alternator) and sectioned the battery tray for the alt clearance(I'd put the battery in the boot, but the wagon doesn't have one, haha). I already bought a good used alternator of a V8 Stato, without putting any thought into it(and I already have the VPSS-der should have already worked that one out) . It's just the dramas with the bit with the plug, the "+" post and the spade terminal and working out which particular wire goes where....

have a look there it has pics explaining where the wires go to and info on the conversion.
as to turning the housing its easy just undo the 4 screws and twist lol
Got it all sorted last Monday. No probs now...
Thanx anyway.![]()
Whats the charge rate sposed to be on these alternators coz the other 1 I bought was carp outputwise, and the good 1 of the SS is the same. Isn't it sposed to be 14.5 volts@ 3000rpm or whatever?
13.6-14.8v @1500rpm is acceptible.
test ur alt supply wire for resistance plus to benifit the higher output alt it should be upgraded anyway.
