need advice

The predicament is, the car is running well, but we don't need it and it costs $800 a year to sit in the driveway. To roadworthy for selling wd be around $750. to fix oil leaks, and then get at the most 2,000 going by whats out there. So now its no rego no roadworthy and we are no mechanical minded ppl. What should we expect to get from a wrecker? Within past 2 years its had New Inlet manifold, new alternator and water pump, new brakes (all 4 wheels discs) and suspension, and 4 brand new tyres. Perfect Body no rust Its a 1982 VH SL/X v8 auto wagon on LPG.

a wrecker will offer you next to nothing.. better off advertising it privately for a little over what you'd like for it but open to offers and see what offers you get..

thanks, its hard to know what i want for it with it having no reg and no roadworthy, although the mechanic told me the engine alone is worth $1,000 so i guess thats a start

embarrassing in know but i don't know what a 253 means. Like i said in my first post, we are not mechanical minded i am on this website cos yo guys are and i was looking for guidance so what would you say
Its a 4.2L and has had recently new pwer steering rack as well as those things i mentioned before.
There are pics on carsguide.com.au (postcode 4005.) its a 4.2L not a 3.8 like the add says, again that is our ignorance.

A 253 is a 4.2L. 253 is the engine size in cubic inches and 4.2 is the engine size in Litres.

Sounds like it is too good to go to the wreckers. I would advertise it for $1500 and see if you get any interested buyers, and if you get no takers then keep dropping the price. Just a few oil leaks should be easy to fix for the average back yard mechanic.

yeah advertise around trading post , just cars magazine ,local papers ,websites like you already have and your bound to find a buyer and if worst comes to worst put it on ebay someone will buy off there for sure

yeah agreed someone will snap it up off ebay put the reserve as say 1400-1500 and start the bidding at 800-1000

Anyone here had trouble setting up a sellers acct on ebay? Ebay wants paypal acct set up which is fine by me. Paypal wants a premier or business email address so i gave my other email address and the ad i created still doesn't come up. Ebay told me to talk to paypal and paypal told me to talk to ebay...so the merri-go-round.
No bites from trading post or carsguide, its pissing me off...anyone know of websites that allow you to post for sales without first contributing 50 unrelated posts. Its not that i don't want to pay money to place an ad, just wanting to cast the net wide. Like I said, TOO GOOD FOR WRECKERS YARD

of late ive noticed the market is flooded with commodores. the market value for private sale of a VH sl/x 253 auto wagon is about between $900-$2100. acording to the cars guide and red book.

Thanks Trav, I just dread taking it to a wrecker when it is still a good car in good nick. I will just continue to list it as long as it takes and maybe someone in SE QLD will be able to take it off my hands and use the good stuff that it has. If we hadn't spent about $5,000 on it over the past 4 yrs it wdn't really phase me too much.
I have now put it in trading post and carsguide and will re-attempt to set up a sellers acct on ebay..they didn't think my email address sounded business like enough but then wdnt let me progress to upgrade my acct using my only other email address! what a fiasco.
