Intending to repower meh VK with a VN v6 goodies, and been reading all the good threads about it, but none really mention rear brakes...
How easy is it to convert the drum brakes on my late 85 VK 3.3 Injected diff to discs?
Ta.
I'm pretty sure you can change them to a VL Calais?? disc brakes, but I don't know bout changing them to VN. And I also don't know if a VL Calais one would do the job.

Tomorrow doesn't look good either.
God must love stupid people, He made so many.
its a fair easy job, if you can get a vk calais diff you would be laughin its just a straight bolt up, but you also need 2 change the mastercylinder as the pressure that is sent throught the lines is differnt from drum to disc as the drum brake ones had a spring.
Being an injected 202 chances are it's already a borgy underneath, not the ol' 8 bolt...so just find another commy with a borgy diff and pinch the disc assembly off of that...ie: VL/VN/VP etc etc

there is also a right up in the new JC mag (last month now)
they did it on the a Vl and all they did was change the handbrake cable and then the rest just bolted up! no master cylinder change or anything like that i don't think?
If i have time i'll copy it into the "how to's" section
I have replaced my rear drum brakes with discs using the same axle. Apart from the disc/caliper set up, you need to change the brake line that runs along the top of the axle, this joins the existing brake line that runs from the front of the car. Of course you will need the flexible rubber brake hoses that connect the caliper to the brake line. You will need to change the handbrake cable. AND one small detail, you must replace the rear axle bearings to the disc brake version bearings (apparently these bearings make the axles sit 5mm futher out for clearance). The disc brake set up reqires these bearings so the don't scrape. To my knowlege you can run the same master cylinder and brake booster, but I replaced mine with a 1 inch master cylinder and a heavy duty brake booster for better feel and stopping power.
VK Calais had a disc brake rear didn't it? If you can find one of them and the Diff housing is the same, just pull the bits you want and swap them onto your car axle and all. The disc is the same from VK to VP for the rear brakes (some one is sure to correct me if I'm wrong.). The calipers may have been upgraded but still bolt straight up. It's just the plumbing. The master cylinder for Disc/Drum brakes and the all 4 Discs is the same one (Courtesy--Better Brakes). The adjuster keeps em out so you don't have to pump up the brakes before you use them. Try Mr. Spares on Ebay. He will give you the good oil.

i want to do the same thing i got quoted $150 for the conversion drums to discs which i reckon is a bargen![]()
There's a 5mm spacer on the disc brake axle between the drive flange and the oil seal and bearing, that's not on the drum brake axle. You have to have the spacer if your running discs. The axle is the same for both drum and disc, provided you use the axle that is correct for the diff. you have. Don't try a salisbury into a borgy, you might be dissapointed.
