ok well i own a vh,
i had starter problames and went through alot of bullsh*t, and then i was told my ringear was buggered.
so i rang around, and a mechanic said that auto's dont have ringears? they have drive gears/ drie plates?
the price from city dismantlers was 440 firm for a new starter and a new ringear.
price from local mechanic was 340 for a new drive gear ( i think he acctualy said drive plate ). which apparently would solve the problame.
would appreciate it if somebody could shed some light.. want to get this fixed properly asap. ( get my p's next week.. so i want it running.. )
any ideas? thanks

Basically the same thing but a manual has a thicker flywheel so they are called ring gears and the auto has a thin flywheel and the teeth are more of a plate attached to the flywheel. Auto's are dearer to fix yes, try and get hold of a complete s/h flywheel.
The ring gear normally only wears in three places on a 202 and you might be able to get away with undoing the bolts to the crankshaft and turning the flexplate half a turn and then doing the bolts up again so the starter is now engaging on a different position on the ring gear.
