gday my VH has a 3.3 Blue in it and it has a 5 speed gearbox. im thinking of dropping a 3.8L V6 in from a VN and i want to keep my existing gear box, will the V6 and existing gearbox fit together or will i need a conversion of some sort? I dunno what sort of gear box it is, but i know it isnt stock for the model I have, according to the research ive done. the gearing goes like the diagram below, thats as much info i can give.

Who knows what the box is out of I know BMW use a box witht hat shift pattern in their Z3 & M series, Also Audi TT, VW all use that shift pattern. This shift pattern is mainly used on european cars, so it might be some sort of opel 5 speed, who knows.
We need some pics of the box, including any pics of serial numbers & castings ont he housing of the gearbox.
Anyway it could most likely be used you just need to get an adapter plate or bell housing for it, if it will handle the power is another thing...
cheers

I think it's out of the 4cyl model and some people reckon it could handle the power, it works well on the 3.3, I cant get pictures for a while due to not being able to get hold of a camera

If its out of a 4cyl model it should last under 10 seconds behind a V6
cheers

If you need to pull up a little circle thing on the gear shifter to select reverse then you will have a 5 speed out of an Astra, i think the largest engine it had is a 2.0 4cyl? correct me if i am wrong.
It wouldnt be out of an astra as they are all FWD. I would say it is a Borg Warner gearbox maybe out of a Mitsubishi Sigma as those boxes have that shift pattern.
Im not a complete idiot, some parts are still on backorder!
The 5 speeds from vh's and vk's are weak as piss the m20 is even stronger why would you want to keep and old crap shifting box like that anyway? get a v6 box what ever they are t5? i think there alot better box
The 5 speed's are only good for land fill IMO
it runs great on the 3.3, not a single problem sure is a pleasure to drive so i doubt it's a opel 4cyl one some how, all I know is the VH sixes didnt come in 5 speed. to select reverse I have to push the shifter down.

Vh sixes did have a 5 speed, well the 2.85 did anyway, coded M76. It was made by Borg Warner. The VH 2.85 and VK 202 EST motors got these. They are very weak, wouldn't hande the torque of an EFi202. So IMO don't use that gearbox behind a 3.8L V6. Use the proper V6 T5 gearbox.

The wivenhoe dude wouldn't have a V6 T5, only wrecks Holdens upto VL. But if you ever see him, only have to ask him.
Rodney Hylands would the go, specially since you live in Burnie( and i didn't even know!)

VH 186 and 202 had the M75. Some later 'HDT' models had the M76. VK 202 and EFI 202 had M76. Same box, but the 76 is stronger to take the EFI gear.
I have a mate that hooked an M75 up to an ecotec, but blew it down shifting in 3 days. And he said he was babying it around.
I don't know what he did to make it fit, as so much is different.
EFI 202 were all auto, Holden never put a manual box behind the EFI.
Also HDT used the US built Borg Warner T5G, not the M75/M76 gearbox. The only HDT 6 i know of, Project Berlina used a T5H.

I got the car up on the hoyst today, and it is a Borg Warner it had some digits then a H.

Sounds like its an M75/M76. A few people stated here that it may be a Sigma box. The M75 and the Sigma box are the same unit. The only difference is the bellhousing and the input shaft. Apart from fabricating a custom bellhousing there is no way that the M75/76 will mate up with a V6
