    Default Power steering questions

The first question. When changing from power steering to manual steering and vice versa does the lower steering column piece that connects to the rack need to be changed over as well?

Is it possible to relocate the power steering reservoir thing? Like at the moment it's mounted near the batter, and I want it moved down the back somewhere, like maybe on the firewall. Would that be possible if I moved the plumbing as well? Can the reservoir be mounted lower then the pump? On our VH wagon, the reservoir is like built in with the pump...not 100% sure coz I haven't taken any notice,..but it sits with the pump or sumfun, is this setup better to use?

I'm thinkin bout converting to manual steering coz I want my engine bay as neat as possible, but if I can do sumfin to minimise the mess the power steering gear leaves I might just keep power steering.

Sry for asking ****loads of questions lately, but hey I gotta learn

    Cheers.

yes you need to replace the lower part and i think maybe the whole shaft

yes you can move the resevoir but it needs to be higher then the pump so you can bleed it

go manual, they dont need power steering unless your a nancy

Spank my ass and call me Nancy. Keep the power steering, you can neaten it up by putting braided hose covers on.

You need to change the immediate shaft, yes this can be done with out taking out column but have fun specially if your engine is in. just remove the whole collumn and replace the immediate shaft. put your reservoir where ever you wish just make sure ur lines dont get in the way of to much heat, im relocating mine to the drivers side. also you cant us the setup like Vh caus u have an alternator their though if your running EFI it may be possible by putting the alternator where the vacumme pump goes and then their should be room but would be hard to put oil in etc.
    Cheers Tom

Thx mate. On my motor which is going in (mild 173) the alternator is on the passenger side down bottom, and the VH power steering pump goes on the driver side top. Where the air pump use to be I'm saving that spot for a SC14 to mount. So hopefully it should all fit.
