Have yous thought about using the small gas struts like used for the tailgate on the wagons? I rekon they're about $30 each brand new, or go to a wreckers and u could prolly get them cheap as. Might have to fab up ur own bracket or sumfin but shouldn't be to hard.

If you do put new springs in just protect your knuckles U pull it quoted me $40 for the new springs with install. I tried to do it my self but the metal started to tare. You really only have a few attempts to get it right.

personally I'll going the strut idea when I can be bothered, the torsion rods are a **** idea anyway, they relax over time I think, Ive never seen a set that work properly. I have to park facing downhill slightly for the boot to stay open by itself, real pain in the arse if you have to use the boot frequently. Stuff payign $40 for U Pull it, spend the money on a strut, at least you'll get something that works.

Mate , they are a prick of a job to put in unless u have the right tool From memory there is a left and right side ( I think , I done hundreds of them when i worked for GMH ) You have to have the boot lid fully open ( easier with the boot lid off ) Thread it through the hinge bracket with boot open then hook the end of the spring into the hole in hinge ,Then grab the other end of the torsion spring with a pair of multi grips ,twist it towards u and clip it into the slot next near the boot light . When using the multi grips ,attatch them to the torsion spring as close as possible to the back as you can. If you are handy with a welder ,PM me and i will send you a sketch on how to make the tool. Its pretty easy . Just a piece of square tubing with two notches welded on
there are three types of people in the world , those who can count and those who can't
