I've noticed that the car runs a bit rough when i am sitting at the lights. It's actually stalled on me a couple of times. It idles fine in park and is not rough at all. When the car is cold the revs are higher and it doesnt do it. The same when I have the air con turned on. What should I be looking at here?
It's EST....... so timing cant be adjusted?
Cable is fine it idles in park and neutral nicely or in drive when the air con is on. It is fine when driving just runs crap when idling in drive. Is there any sort of vaccum sensor from the trans to the carby?
You might need to adjust the idle mixture on the carby or just adjust the idle speed screw a bit. When you turn the air con on it activates the fast idle solenoid to bring your idle speed up a little to compensate for the extra load of the ac pump. When your engine is at idle in drive there is extra load on it from the torque converter so you need to increase the idle speed a bit .

I have the same problem at the moment with my vk calais. It idles fine in park and when cold, but then misses and stalls when in drive or reverse or when blinkers or low beam is on.So far I've been told to check for a vacuum leak-Though I'm not exactly sure how to do that.I have heard pouring water slowly out of a coke bottle over the manifold will find the leak???
i use to have the same problem with my VK Calais wouldnt idol and use to miss at about 1200 rpm
with the Ei engines the timing is 12 degrees (not the usual 8) BTDC and idles about 800- 900 RPM in park
i also put in new rotor button and dizzy cap
and make sure all your vacuum lines are connected right somebody on this site (i forget who) has the vacuum diagram for the EST and Ei engines fix these and it should be running sweet
BTW with the Ei engine that big thread with lock nut that goes into the top of the throttle body looks like it does nothing and goes nowhere, it actualy makes a huge difference when its adjusted
