    Default Which motor

    Hey there all.
I'm a new member and about to return to commodore ownership after 10 years!
I have a project in mind and was wondering if you could steer me in the right direction.

My plan is to purchase a good condition EFI VK Calais and turbocharge the motor. I will be using a Garrett T04 on a custom steampipe manifold for durability, a large frontmount intercooler and a Wolf 3D version 4 ECU which I've had lying around for a year now.

To begin with I will be running relatively low boost (7psi) as I dont want to crack open the motor. While I am playing with that engine i would like to build up a spare on the side (nothing too radical and still fairly cheap) no o-ringing or anything like that as i'd like to see how far I can push a relatively standard engine. My question is which would be the better engine (blue or black) to start with eg. what are the pros and cons of each engine.

    Many thanks!

instead of using all custom parts why not buy your vk calais and buy a vl turbo motor. there are so many more aftermarket parts and will produce alot more power for a fraction of the price. im doing this conversion now and it is so easy its a direct swap.
just something to think aobut pm if u need any info or help

    Default 202

It has to be a 202

RB30's are great, dont get me wrong, but I havebeen playing with turbo Jap engines (daihatsu, subaru and toyota) for the past 7 years!

For some reason I have this fascination with the holden 6. It is an agricultural prehistoric nightmare from a performance point of view but for some strange reason I want to turbo one... go figure! Then when I finally have it out of my system I can throw in an RB26DETT!

    Cheers anyway

blue 202's are typically known as the best of the lot, only thing is they came out with carby but it donesn't take much to covert to efi.

Does anyone know if the EFI ntake manifold from the VK fits straight on to the head of a blue motor?

Yep, they are exactly or almost exactly the same head so that's no problem.

p.s I've read about a guy running over 20 psi into a 202 with the stock starfire rods and it's QUICK. I can't see any reason why you can't make one as fast as a RB30 they will do the revs and should be strong enough so yeah, why not

if you are getting it engineered you might need to consider the black motor as i think the blue isnt legal in a VK as its too old. cant go back in engine age. only replace with what came out or something newer. ( i may be worng )
