Default 202 won't idle! Any help much appreciated..

    Gday guys,
I have just freshly built a warm 202. I have given it a holley 350, the motor starts and runs quite easily on the 2nd crank, however it refuses to idle or hold at a certain amoutn of revs, i have to pump the pedal for the motor to continue to run after i have initially started it. In doing this the motor will rev up fine then if i dont pump the pedal again it drops in revs almost to the point of stalling and will stall unless i give the throttle a little jab. I'm guessing it's only running off the accelerator pump? Would anyone know what may be the problem with the carby?
    Thanks in advance,
    Cheers, Rhys

Do u have a choke on the 350 holley and is it only doing it when it is cold like when u first start it mine has been doing the same thing and i have to sit there for about 3 to 4 mins with the accelerator at half peddle for it to warm up befor i can drive it as the choke is that but i dont have it all hooked up yet

It has a manual choke which i haven't set up yet. I don't think it's the choke though as i cant hold the car at half throttle, it just wont hold, i can only get it to half throttle by pumping the throttle, I;m guessing it's something else but i'll give it a whirl.

I used to have a VH with a 202 and a 350 holley and the only way to keep the engine running was to set the choke to exactly the right spot, if was out by even a small amount it wouldnt run and you couldnt hold it by pumping the throttle. I wouldnt worry too much about it unless it still does it with the choke operational.
Im not a complete idiot, some parts are still on backorder!

my VH 202 is difficult to start of a morning and when it's been sitting for like 8hrs and idles realy rough (due to having a 1/4 cam). the manual choke comes in realy handy, and once it's warm. it will then start 1st time every time.

I've found the problem! I hadn't installed the inlet/exhaust manifold gasket properly therefore causing it to suck air! Also there was a vacuum pipe on the carby which was not connected, hence sucking more air. No wonder it was running like a pig. It's at the mechanic getting a final tune at the moment, thanks alot guys
