Hey guys i was Having a look under my bonnet sussing out things for the work i'm about to undertake on it. So i was looking at my id tags and saw it says engine L14, would i be correct in saying that it denotes a 3.3lt High compression motor?
So i looked at the head which i noticed is stamped with an L, now i thought all H/C motors have a H stamped on the head and L/C had an L correct?
Now my engine has the VL prefix which i read somewhere on here that it denotes a H/C motor correct?
Maybe there has just been a head change or maybe i totally off in assuming that the motor or head is not original.
So i was wondering if there is any place where the original engine number is located (besides on the motor) i cant see it on the tags unless i'm blind.
Thanks in advance guys for helping sort this out
Cheers Pub
I think the 3.3 engines had L on the head because it has the large combustion chamber, and the 2850 or 173 engine had H on the head because it had the smaller combustion chamber to get the compression right. You can put a 202 head on a 173 to get a low compression motor but with the 202 you use the head with L on it for a high compression motor.
