Default Blue 202 - Can it be EFI'd?

hi everybody, long time reader first time poster here! i've got a few questions if thats ok

i just got myself a 83 vh commodore with a blue 202 and i want to make it efi using the head from a black 202.. wondering would the head bolt straight on to the blue motors bottom end or do i need to get a whole black motor? what else do i need to do (i think someone told me i need the petrol tank and gearbox, is this true and is there anything else)?

i have extractors on the blue 202, will that bolt up to the black motor or do i need new extractors?

finally will i be able to use unleaded without the additive if i make it efi or do i need to get something for the blue motor to make it only unleaded? how about the black motor?

thanks heaps guys i know theres lots of smart people here you've helped me before without knowing it

Pretty much abolt on as far motor goes you dont even need to change head reallyif you got an air pump those lines will need blocking where they bolt into the head just use some plugs or cut the pipes and weld them up. You need a lot of bits though including an efi fuel tank (vk-vn i think fit) ecu, wiring harness, fuse box, efi fuel pump, air flow meter, manifold, all the intake plumbing, throttle body and a few other bits and pieces. Best bet is to find a whole wreck or a bomb and swap parts over. Be less expensive and easier than hunting down all the parts you need.
As for fuel you should either run an additive or a 98 ron fuel, EFI Vk's were made to run on leaded aswell

One thing I will add, the extractors will need to be changed as the header pipes come out too far and foul on the EFI inlet manifold. You can get aftermarket extractors to suit EFI. When the VK was made there was no such think as unleaded. I would use either the fuel additive or the top end lube in a bottle connected to an inlet vacuum line. If you are going to the trouble of fitting the black head then you should get it converted to run unleaded. Things like hardened valve seats and stainless steel guides are used so they don't wear out from lack of lead which kept them from wearing.

so, if i was to convert the VC (blue 202) to efi, the head doesnt need changing? what about if it has a 173 head?

you will need all the emissions gear off a black motor with efi for it to be 100% legal. dunno where you are but i asked the rta about this and they don't care as long as its emissions compliant.

I am in canberra and had my 253 "updated" to run unleaded, the guy who did the work said do not worry about a CAT or the emissions gear. He said just do not tell anybody it runs on unleaded. Me being a goodie-goodie deceiced I would do the right thing and make it legal. SO i rang the local RTA (well its RUS in canberra) and they told me if the car was not released with a CAT and such and the motor is still the oringinal number you do not need to do anything..
