    Default 173 and 202 heads

Well I know the 173 head has smaller chambers then the 202 head. So if I shaved the 202 head could it be shaved down to the same specs as the 173 head?

No not really Pirie if you take too much off you gonna have vavles hitting pistons . Basically i don't think the maximum amount you could take off would equal the size of a 173 chamber.

ah ok, thx mate. I might stick with the 173 head then and just put new valves and seats in it.

You could do that, or. How 'bout taking it to an engineering shop and having Bigger valves and seats than standard put in. The bigger the hole the more you can get through it!
No it's not NOS it's LPG

Thats exactly what is on my new motor 202 running a 173 head with a mild port and huge valves. damn it goes soo much better i just wish i got a bigger cam than the one i chose not lumpy enough but you you can definitely feel the extra torque it gives, starts pulling more from 2000rpm

How much does it cost for porting and bigger valves? I figured it would be way out of my price range and figured it would be cheaper buying a head already with the work done.

I have my old head i you want to buy it vhpirie its a 3.3lt but does have huge valves and where the air injection ports are have been ground down in the exhaust ports would suit a rebuild i've got it at work atm going stick in the acid tank then maybe sandblast to clean it up

How much would u want for it, and could u post some pics? When u say it needs a rebuild, actually how far, like does it need all new valves and seats? All I have is new valve springs and new valve stem seals. If it needs new valves and seats, could u get them cheap through ur work?

How much bigger are the valves?

I bought some high tensile bolts and put them in the air injection ports on my current head.

Overall wat do u think would be better, a high compression head, or a head with bigger valves? I would think a head that breathes better, but u work with engines so I'd guess you'd know.

Well both H/C and big breathing heads have their merits, my 202 does not have the air ports but in most heads the lump is still present inside the exhaust port. Mine have been have been ground out by the looks. Its still together at work but i'll go in early and pull the valves out and check the the seats for vsr. I know the stems are good i never had a problem with burning oil. The valves are big, a lot bigger than standard.
Hopefully the valves will be ok to use again as it doesn't look that old also the cam i pulled out is aftermarket but i'm not sure what it is, i got a funny feeling its same as the one i bought (has the same numbers and markings).
Look what i'll do tomorrow is i'll pull it apart give it a quick check and a few measurements then i'll get it cleaned. I'll get back to you tomorrow i don't really want it and work says they don't want it cause it has been modified. You can pm me or post up what youre willing to pay for it i'm open to reasonable offers and i understand theyre not worth much. Just remember you'll have to pay postage
