    Default Diff Question

Does anyone know if a VL turbo diff will bolt straight into a VK?

Does your VK have a Borg Warner diff in it? Are you wanting to put in the whole diff housing or just the LSD centre?

It's got a Sailsbury V8 LSD (3.08) diff in it at the moment. I want to fit the whole VL turbo diff as I have been told it's stronger and i think it's 3.45 ratio.

Yeah they are quite strong diffs and the 3.45 ratio is much better than the 3.08 (I put a VLT diff in my VN and I'm loving it). Because you have a Sailsbury I'm not sure if the mounting points are the same. Someone will be able to comfirm or deny this.

If the VK still has the standard linkages then it will bolt straight in. You may have to change the yoke depending on the size of the uni joint you have.

I know for a 6 if u put the VL diff in, u need the rear section of a VK borg warner tailshaft.

If u have a V8 driveline, u might be able to use the rear section of a VL or VN tailshaft.

    Which linkages do you mean?

The yoke is no worries, I work at an engineering supplies shop.

This is only an issue when putting the VL diff into a VN as the lengths are different. The VB-VL were the same.

The yoke just unbolts, you can swap them over. The diff mounts. The ones that mount to the lower control arm where the springs sit and the top bars as well. If they are still standard then you won't have any problems.

the vk's bolted up with uni joins from drive shaft to axle, but changed to flange join on the vk1/2, which carried though to the vl. Just check to see what you've got on yours...

when you find the diff your after also take the rear half of the driveshaft from that vehicle also. the borgwarner diff uses a flange to bolt to the driveshaft where as the salisbury diff the unis bolted straight to the diff with U bolts etc. simply bolt the the back half of the driveshaft that goes with the VL diff (flange) to the front half of your excisting driveshaft. make sure you keep the orientation ofthe driveshaft uni's as they were originally. the best bet is to have the drivehsft balanced properly but try it without first, if there aren't any strange vibrations after then it should be ok. the mounting points for the borgwarner and salisbury diffs are the same otherwise i.e. top and bottom trailing arms, shocks, panhard rod etc make sure the LSD unit in the diff is ok as it's probably had a hard life with it been out of an turbo LSD etc

VL tailshafts aren't the same as the VB-VK salsbury one's. They won't bolt up to VB-VK tailshafts coz they're a fraction bigger in diameter....been there done that. I'm not sure if the V8's had a slightly bigger tailshaft, but the 6cyl tailshaft won't bolt up to the VL tailshaft. You need a VK tailshaft that has a flange on the end which would of been bolted to a borg warner diff. That's if the 6cyl and V8 tailshafts are the same.

Ur VK is an 8 hey? If the rear of the VL tailshaft bolted up to ur VK V8 tailshaft I guess the 6 and 8 tailshafts are slightly different.
