    Default VK EFI 5spd conversion

Hi people, I just thought I would tell you about the 5spd conversion I am doing on the VK Speedway car we have (used to be a calais, so we scored EFI).

We are using the complete gearbox, tailshaft, pedals, and clutch/flywheel setup from a VH, I believe its an M76 gearbox (borg-warner, single-rail style shifter, 5 gears + reverse).

So far the pedal box has swapped over without a drama, and wednesday marks the day the auto dies (or at least has all its blood pumped out to aid the cause of a leaky power steering pump) and gets removed.

Is there anything I should look out for? Looking at the wiring loom the EFI circuit has nothing to do with the gearbox, and the dizzy is a normal electronic ignition setup, so it looks like that EST sensor shouldnt be there.

Incidentally I will be posting up a step-by-step guide when I am done, because I can't find one here. Pics will be included.

Since you racing the car you might want to buy a gearbox that will last longer then race

eg: celica or even a supra if budget allows

you may have to check the park/neutral switch from the auto and bypass it, but see how you go...and good luck!

    what's wrong with the M76?

Its only speedway, and I'll only be making ~150-160 rwhp when its all done, and the car won't be out of 2nd when its under load, so it doesnt have to contend with gear changes.

already done that, it starts in any gear. That was so I didnt have to find neutral if something dumb happens on the track and the car stops.

yeah, coz hitting R for race would be a bad thing while you actually are racing, let alone P for Pass...

incedentally one of my 'mates' did that while up it at around 60k's. Apparently it wouldnt start for 5 minutes or something, he thought he destroyed it.

I'm doin the same thing, with the same box and all....only difference is mine aint EFI yet. And yeah apparently those M76 box's are weak, that's wat I hear from most people who I ask haha....altho with that said, mine's been thrashed ever since I got it and it still goes good!

All I've done so far is swap the pedal box's over. The rest is slowly getting there

mine goes good aswell it's coped with 2 worked engines and is getting a bit harder to shift but probably needs a fluid change. The only thing that hasnt done to well is the clutch

yeah my pedal box is in, and the autos blood has been drained, tailshaft is out.

tomorow the auto comes out, along with the shifter hole cover. The manual cover will be riveted on once the gearbox is in and working.
