Hi there, im new to this forum . Bit of an LC GTR nut but have a soft spot for the vh v8's, owned an x cop vh 308 with all the brock eng trimmings, lsd etc then i got married and had to sell!
Im about to buy a vh 4.2 SLX auto and want to change over to a manual.
Is the pedal setup out of a vb-vh the same in the 6's & 8's?
At this stage i'll go for the m20/21 just to get me running with a manual but will definitely look at putting in a supra 5spd or holden equivalent.
Any thought and suggestions on the mods would be appreciated.
Kev
Yes the opedal boxes are the same. Just remember that things like tailshaft are needed and a spigot bush
The pedal set ups are different between 6 and a V8. Its something to do with the pedal pressure, using a 6 cylinder one wouldn't feel right.
Also Pub24/7 if he uses a Opel gearbox, it wouldn't bolt up to the bellhousing or motor. Also a very weak gearbox. I think he means the Australian design and built M20/M21, aussie 4 speed. These are different, the M21 a more closer ratio than the M20. Also the M20 is really designed for 6 cylinders/stock253s. The M21 more a heavy duty box designed for more higher output 253/308s.

Your right sl/e nut i didnt read it right trust me not to read it properly. Though i did not know the pedal boxes were different i thought they were all the same they look very much alike
Yeah, the pedal boxes are different. I thought they were the same but after looking at dads VB 6 cylinder and my 5.0L VB i did see the difference.
Thats a V8 clutch pedal set up
Thats a 6 cylinder one. Have a look at the hook deatil

thats exactly the info i needed.
A couple of wreckers are telling me they should be the same but the exploded view confirms the difference.
The box will be an aussie 4spd for now.
With more and more vn vp 5spds appearing are they a better option as 5 spd replacement rather than the supra?
The problem with the VN-VS T5 5 speed gearboxes, is that the bellhousing are a turbo bolt patten, a 253 are an aussie/trimatic bolt patten. You can buy a new bellhousing for the T5 to bolt into your 253. Same deal for the Supra 5 speed too.

I'll be changing to a 308 so which is the better option supra or T5?
Also with supra's do the shifters all end in the same position on box or do they vary ie w57, 58 etc?
I don't know about the Supras, never seen one in detail. Best thing to do is ask a gearbox specialists, they could know the difference.

ive heard that even the n/a supra box is stronger than the T5 so that would be a better option
We got rep back, yaaay!
From experience, the Supra box is a pretty tough cookie, and i think might be slightly easier to get hold of than the T5. I've heard the Supra box teamed with a 308 is a mint combination, probably the best bet but it's personal choice really. I'm still using me trusted old trimatic!!!
