Hey, does anyone know if 350s fit into standard VHs, or do you need to modify the engine bay?
Thanks
You need to get a kit to make the 350 fit into the VH. After that it needs to be engineered. IMO i wouldn't bother with a 350, just a nice worked over 308 would be better

A lucky owner of 2 SL/E Commodores, a rare VB SL/E and a 2 tone VC SL/E. Just need a VH SL/E and have the set!
stroke a 308 bigger than that 4 about the same price as a chev conversion
cant regester it any way
its not that hard to get the chev into the vh just gotta move the engine mounts on the block and it will drop in easy its just a big head **** to do the exhaust and will cost a bit and the tail shaft only needs about an inch taken off and all is done. DO IT YOU WONT REGRET IT!!!!!
And it can be registered
If only it was that easy! I had a vb i done this conversion toand belive me when i say its ALOT more involved than that.
You will need to drop the kframe an inch to inch and a half by using spacers between it and the chassis rails other wise no matter what manifold and carb configuration you use it will poke out the bonnet.
Also a commodore has a front hump sump and a chev has rear hump due to the oil pump being inside the back of the engine, therefore requiring a custom sump. youll need custom extractors and either a side swap on the starter or a hi torque mini starter. if you swap sides with the starter you then have to run remote oil filters as thats the side the filter normally resides.
Expect to run into clearence problems with the dizzy and firewall as well.
I used the castlemaine rod shop kit to do mine which are $2000-$2500 to buy and nothing fit how it was suppose to and i had clearance issues with everything.
In my opinion the money spent doing the conversion would be better spent building a tuff 355 or a conversion using an import turbo 6 like a 2j.

there are heaps of issues that need to be addressed, steering, exhaust, starter motor the list goes on. as povrty said stroke a 304/308. If you get a EFI Ute or VT block ( these are from memory can anyone verify this) they have the releifs for the crank already int he block. With all the messing around I think I could do a 350 or 383 stroker for the same cost if not cheaper than a chev conversion.
cheers
