I finally got a battery into the vk on the weekend. The windscreen wipers, indicators and taillights work, but the starter won't!!!
There were some wires hanging around near the starter motor. I traced them back through the dash to a switch hanging by the steering column. The ignition barrel is smashed up, so i'm assuming that the switch was used to start the car. There is a tan or purple(it is dirty as) wire and a light blue wire.
I've talked to the person i got the car off, but they bought it in a non running condition, so aren't sure what the go is. It was apparently running when they got it.
Here is a dodgy photo i took with my dodgy phone.
I think the top lug links to the starter motor. The blue wire is just hanging, and i did try hooking it up to where the thin red wire goes onto the spade connector. I think the tan or purple wire is attached to the lowest terminal.
What else should i hook up, or what can i short out with a s screwdriver to get it to kick over?

to kick it over bridge the solenoid terminal to the heavy power post on the starter with a heavy screwdriver with a decent handle....
i think i tried that. nothing. i'm guessing the starter is dead. i used a test light and had power at the big post and the spade conector but nothing.

trying to avoid pulling it out, as i think that involves pulling the manifolds off. it was a pain getting them in!!!
I was watching a mate working on his escort on the weekend, and that has a bosch starter in it. He had the wires hooked up but it didn't work. He then remembered that the spade connector was on the wrong terminal and moved it to a lower one on the solenoid. could the 202 be the same?

I have seen some starter motor solenoids with up to 3 spade connectors. Some I have seen have two only connected and one that does nothing. Have a look at it you'll see if there is any connection.
take the spade off the terminal and bridge to the heavy post with a screwdriver, if you get no action there then the solenoid is stuffed.
well, whattaya know. there was another spade connector directly below the one i was trying to use. i have some heavier guage wire going from the nut terminal to a momentary toggle switch and then onto the lower spade connector. and it works. i hadn't seen it turn over since i got it about 6 months ago, so had no idea if the motor was any good or not. it didn't have a carby or distributor so i transferred them from my old vh. now i know it works i'll get it all tidied up and go racing.
