    Default Weber Conversion

    Hi , almost completed the weber conversion on the VK. There is a little bit more work to do than expected but so far so good. I have used an ADM 3 Weber of an XE 3.3 Falcon. I have the car running but there is a niggling timing problem to fix. I have secured a dizzy off a VH to fix the EST problem. A standard XE Falcon air cleaner fits okay with only a bit of hose work to change. I have had to modify the carby adaptor plate (Lynx) a little but a Weber spacer helped as well. I cut and shut the VK throttle linkage and modified the return spring setup as well. The auto choke is a straight up connector change and the throttle cut off wire needed lengthening and it now works as well. I think I have most of the vacuum hoses sorted but I need to look at a falcon manual or live car to double check. I have taken some photos along the way so I'll post them when I have finished. cheers

    i take it the choke arm was hitting the adaptor plate?? if so i had the same issue

    Yes, it was the arm operated by the throttle linkage. I have sorted the vacuum stuff out I believe. I found an XF ute dumped in the bush while on a work trip so I was able to grab the carby complete with the vaccuum set up to use as an example. The VH dizzy only turned up yesterday from interstate so I'll get that on on the weekend. I now think the EST timing issue was most likely caused by the vacuum sensor located under the fuse rack. It converts the manifold vacuum to an electronic signal and sends it to the EST. I was getting roughly 20 degrees BTDC at idle and it was causing flooding and all sorts of other complications. I'll get some photo's up as soon as I can. cheers

    just a qik question, dont know much bout fords, i got an xf carby to go on the vh these are the same as the xe carby's yeh?

    they should basically be the same, but when i was hunting for one i noticed some had a fuel return, but it shouldn't be to hard to blank that off

    cheers mate, yer i havent really had a good look at it yet i hear u can get adaptor plates for them to suit the standard manifold any ideas where i could get one?

    any auto shop should be able to get you one, the only problem you'll have is that the adaptor plate needs adapting, theres 2 points on the weber that will hit the adaptor plate, the choke throttle adjuster and an arm on the other side of the carby, it has a roller type thing on it, all i did was use a couple of spare weber spacers, the ones that go between the middle and base of the carby, aswell as the standard heat defuser that goes underneath the carby, also be carefull how much you raise it by as there aint much room between my air filter and bonnet after i did mine

    I have fitted a falcon air cleaner to the weber. No modifications needed on the VK. The only thing need is a longer breather hose. It fits neat and plenty of clearance.

    I fitted the VH dizzy last weekend before I went bush again. The car is running ok now although it needed about 7- 8 deg timing before it was happy. I am wondering if the timing mark on the harmonic balancer is actually the problem. The way they are punched out for the aftermarket anything could happen.

    I was able to get an aftermarket fuel cut off solenoid (Fuelmiser) for half the price of a genuine. I got it from a specialist carby shop for $45. I found that the car was running on when I switched it off.
