Ok, im wanting to put a VN-VR-VS 5L V8 into a VK. Now i have a few questions:
1) Will the engine bolt straight in the car? If not then what work is required?
2) Will i need to consult an engineer to approve the conversion, seeing as the car originally had a V8 in it?
Cheers,
Timo
First off, whats in the VK now (you said originally, meaning its changed)? If its not a V8, you'll need a V8 cross member.
I guess you'll be using the standard VN-S trans aswell, you'll need to redrill some holes, and make a bracket for the gearbox.
You WILL need an engineers report, as you are putting a motor in a car that didn't originally have it. This is the same even if your are putting a VP 5L into a VN (stupid, but what law isn't)
You'll need to add all the pollution equipment, aswell as an exhaust with cat converters.
The list could go on for miles tho

I would really consult an engineer either way, as you'll also need to upgrade the brakes (to 4 wheel disc at a minimum if it doesn't already have them)

I was going to fit discs alround anyway so brakes are no dramas either.
So on the whole it sounds like a pretty easy conversion, has anyone on here done it?
Also it wouldnt be too hard to get an engineers certificate for a swap like this would it? Sorry i have no experience with engineering approvals lol.
Theres no clearance problems with steering rack, master cylinder or brake booster etc?
Thanks guys for your help so far.
Cheers,
Timo
I thought all V8 VK's came out with 4 wheel disc brakes. Correct me if i'm wrong.
Cheers Tom
I couldn't really help with anything else, my conversion was a V6 and 5 speed into a VK Wagon. We made a custom gearbox mount, but its fairly easy once you have it in there what needs to be done.
You main problem getting an engineering certificate will be pollution gear etc.
Your best be would be to ring an engineer and speak to them directly. I have ADRs of what needs to be changed when it comes to different motors etc, but having a brief look through, i couldn't find the exact page again.
I'm not sure on the mountings for the VKs, but i would assume the VN gearbox auto or manual would be in a different position (with mine the shifter was about 40mm back, and hit on the centre console)
