    Default Push-button start

hey all, just trying to get my wagz of a regency defect and ive almost finished putting a vk dash in (its a vh) and while im changing all the loom to suit the vk gear i was thinking how cool it would be to have a push-button start. still have it so i have to put the key in to get power like ya nomally would but instead of turning the key that bit further to start ya just hit the button, if ya get me drift?

so does neone rekon this would get past regency? or shud i do it when the defect is off?

    cheers, Brad

wait for the defect to come off brad i doubt they'd let it through with it. There's a thread in the VR-VS section or in the how to section for doing one on that model. I'm sure it would be very similar sort of deal

lol well at the moment it actually is push button start coz we made it into our burnout car (legal comps....only went to one in it[got 3rd in the 6cyl class], has sat down the back since). We had no intentions on getting it back on the road....so all the illegal mods are being fixed up lol.

It was either fix it or scrap it.....and as it is Brad's first car we just couldn't scrap it.

well as of a couple of hours ago the ignition is back to normal. just need to solder all the wires now, that'll be a job. most things are just twisted and taped for now lol but will be soldered.

    You can make them legal.

As long as the key has to be in the accessories position for the buttong to work, and the keys can't come out while in that position.

And the only way to turn the car off is to turn the key back.

Key in the 'on' position, not accessory.

All of my VLs don't have an on position different to accessory, so i figured it would be the same for his VH.

Doesn't the early ignition turn backwards past the off position for accessories? The accessories position doesn't power up any of the ignition circuits, just things like radio, power windows and stuff like that. So it would be, key in, turn back one click for acc, then turn forwards to off, then to on for ignition lights, then forward again to start.

yea i spose if u wanna see it like that, but i just say that ACC is when the dash lights come on but i think ur right.

i think STEALTHY might be thinking the same as me too.

so what i mean is, the dash lights have to come on before it will start which is what i call ACC. if ya get what i mean?

Yep, I get you. But that is the ON position...lol, as in ignition. Powering up accessories is the ACC position.

    YouTube - VK starts
That is the one in my vk. I have a relay in the engine bay with the wires from the solenoid to the starter wired through one part of the relay and a loop with the switch hooked up to the battery and other posts on the relay. The other switch is the ignition. Haven't got accessories yet.

Hey everyone, my how-to thread is up now:

    Illuminated Engine Start Button

For your custom jobs, the principle would be the same, just the wiring configurations would slightly differ. Have Fun!
