Default What can I do to a 2.78?

Hi guys, I just brought myself a V8 diff. I was told that it was a 3.08, but, when i got it home my ol' man told me it's a 2.78! So what can i do to it? It's going into my good body (VK). One day it's going to be a show/drag car.I only pay $85.00 for the diff.

Do you mean its a 10 Bolt Sals or an 8 bolt Sals?.

I suppose you could use it, good for fuel economy if anything!. You could sell it as well.

With a 308 behind it, not to long. Even with LSD, it won't last that long. Its only really designed for 202/low torque 253s.

2.78 diffs are usually behind 202/253 Trimatic Commodores.

Thanks guys. The motor I'm going with is a 304 efi, the aim is to have 550hp. Maybe if talk to diff specialists, may be they can help, hey! I do have another vk but that has a 6's in it.

G'day, where your tailshaft connects to the diff. Just have a look around the plate where's the front bit of th diff. It should be stamped on there. You will need a wire brush to clean it then you will see what ratio it is.
