There's a guy on here which has done it, his username is Dan355 on some forums, but not sure if it's the same on here, similar I think. Can't remember exactly wat he said had to be done, but u have to remove those dowls, drill another hole for each of them and put them in. And I think that was the main thing which had to be done.

Put the red head gasket on ur black block, and see wat holes are missing (or added), that will tell ya wat needs doin.

Just saw u had a VK calais. If it's an EFI 6 in ur calais (which all 6's are EFI standard in the calais), don't put the red head on if ur keeping the EFI, coz the intake manifold won't fit the head.0

Dont bother at all i say, the black/blue had is far better then the red head. But yes it can be done, as VHPirie said.

    Cheers Tom

it can be done ,i worked on a blokes rally ute with the black block red 161 head (i think)
from memory he had the head modified as well to suit the 12 port manifold.
Apparently the idea is the red 161 head has a lot smaller combustion chamber giving a higher compression ratio.
If ya want more info i'll try to find out the guy's name
    Regards Phillip

    That millsies rodoza ??

Yes the red head has more compression and yes it fits the black block but ya gotta drill out the water gallieres in the block to match the head and i think you can get a gasket to suit plus ya manifolds will be different.

Yea i did it with my 202, only reason being is that the red head i had flowed a hell of alot more than my blue head. It was a low comp head which was decked a little. It was perfect for the nitrous i was running.... lol but the bottom end couldnt handle the thrashing.
Honestly its a waste of time if your running EFI or a blue head. If the head had work done to it then yea maybe but only over a standard head.

You need to drill new water jacket holes in the block and weld up some of the old ones (maybe, maybe not) which of coarse means after you finished the block will need to be cleaned and decked again.

You dont need to weld anything. You just need to thread the holes your not going to use and screw in some grub screws with lock tight.
