Gearbox?

My daughter has a 5.0lt VH manual,don't think it's factory 4 speed as engine has been done up.
The other day the bracket that holds the gearstick to the gearbox broke.She called a mobile mech and was told that the bracket can be welded but the box had to come off and stripped because something must have ceased inside for it to brake like that. It sounds a bit sus to me as the gears never crunched and seemed to go into gears ok.

something seizing in the gearbox can't cause that bracket to break, it's completely seperate besides the linkage rods, she or someone must be trying to quickshift or sumthing to break it.

I think the mobile mechanic is trying to make some easy dollars. It shouldn't be too hard to pull the shifter off and weld up the bracket. If the linkages are worn they can sometimes jam but i don't think it would be anything inside the gearbox seizing up. If it has been getting stuck in gears you can still buy new shifters from Speco or look for a good second hand one on Ebay. It probably has the aussie four speed box
