    Angry cracked firewall

well while under the hood this weekend trying to solve a carby issue i noticed i have a crack in my firewall about 2 inches long and about 3 inches away from were the steering comes out, my question is this
is there any point in getting this welded up or is it just going to happen again in the near vicinity due to the heat from the repair, also is it legal to get this type of repair done anymore

I would be seeing a automotive engineer first. Ask the same Q, then see if you can get it fixed.
Also never heard of the problem before. I have to check the 2 VBs and 1 VC for this.

i think thats from the brake pedal being pushed hard into the firewall and over time it fatigues and causes that crack. cos its in that general area it is likely to do it again if repaired

Hmmm just had a quick look in dads VB and my VC, neither has cracks.

While i was looking, both at your pic and in a VB shell here, i don't think your car has a crack, its just a small lip there.

I think it's a fold from factory panel stamping, but get a killer light under the dash and see if light shows through the crack on the other side...
I was confused now I'm just not so sure!!

    RIP Peter (perfect) Brock....

We had an XF panel van at work crack the firewall, insanely bad. But that was around the clutch cable due to a heavy ass clutch. Common problem, but never heard of it happening to a Holden, specially in that area?

Would have thought the pedal box would absorb/spread any stress evenly over the firewall. Odd question, but is it manual?
