    Default New Engine priming oil

Just a question on how to prime the oil pump on a new 202. I gave it a quick start tonight but it seems as though there is no oil pressure and no oil going into my filter. It starts for about 30 secs due to not being tuned yet but I was wondering if there was a way to prime the oil system?

I once knew a mechanic who always put quite a bit of vaseline into the pump itself so it would suck properly and prime the system first go.

Being petroleum based it disolves into the oil right away and causes no dramas at all, I would prolly change the oil the next day just to be sure.

You can half fill the filter and get it on quick without spilling much- I do it on the VT resonably successfully.

I've always been taught that providing you have pre lubed everything before assembly, remove the leads so it wont fire, but crank her over for a minute or two, bringing pressure into the pump. Then start.

Thats the way I do it. But I have the plugs out too so it winds over fairly quickly. Hook an oil gauge up to it, turn it over until the pressure gets up over 30psi then it's good to go. If you haven't got a guage, turn it over until the oil light goes out.

i use both the vaseline in the pump and prefill the filter, fill it, let it sit for 5mins and fill gain, do that untill it won't take any more and the oil level is just under the threaded hole, then cover with vaseline to stop oil coming out whe nputting filter on, it helps, doesn't stop all oil but it will stop some. with the 202, have the rocker cover off and use an oil can to squirt some oil over the rockers etc before first startup. i know some guys that soak the lifters in engine oil before putting into engine also.

cranking without plugs is also the best idea to get the oil presure up quick

Would like to thank all for the info. Started it tonight finally. I ended up using an oil can to fill up the pump and also fill the filter. Worked a charm so once again thanks.
