    Default VK K-Frame

Hi, can anyone tell me if the VL K-Frame will fit the VK. My sons 6cyl late series VK (power steer) had an argument with a gutter. cheers

For the V8's yes (steering rack might need changing with it?), but the 202 VK K frame should be the same as the V8 one anyway

I would think the mounting points for the engine mounts would be different due to the VK being a 202, and the VL prolly an RB30. I know they changed when the V6's come in, not sure if the VL 6's were changed tho.

The VL I can get hold of cheap is an RB30. The engine is good but it has been the subject of some vandalism. Someone has jumped on the roof, bonnet and smashed the windows. It was going well before this. It is now minus the injectors and a few other parts that have gone into the owners other VL. If I had not just put in a reco 202 in the car I would think about swapping over to the RB30. I know the control arms, struts etc are the same but just need to know about the engine mounts in the VL. cheers

Ah I see what your after now. Yes you can convert to rb30 with the VL rb30 kframe, infact the whole front end suspension/engine/kframe can all bolt in as a unit by lowering the front of the car over the front end the major problem is running the return fuel line (unless the VK was a injected 202 then you allready have one), but that's still not a huge big deal. Id go for the rb30 even over a reco 202, 202's and carbies in general just suck too much fuel and make no power to be of any use these days

I get your drift. Trouble is i have just weberised it, got rid of the crappy computer & sensors and put in an electronic dizzy. It goes much better and fuel economy has improved. If the VL K frame will bolt in and the mounts are in the right place I'd prefer to use the 202. The RB30 will require a bit more work than I feel like doing now.

    Yeah but you can't use a rb30 K frame from a VL with a 202 only with the rb30

Just buy a VK K-frame their about 50 bux tops from any reasonable wreckers. Theirs a very small difference between a power steering and a non power steering, but either do work. Apparently if u have a non power steering k-frame with power steering theirs a little more firmness, this is how mine is setup and the powersteering is still lighter then the vt. But maybe if u dont have powersteering with a powersteering k-frame then their maybe a noticable difference.

    Cheers Tom

That's wat he wanted to know in the first place lol

I'm using a kframe out of a power steering car, and I put manual steering on it....it bolts up ok, nothing is different that I've noticed.

Hey Rossco if u give me ur postage details I can get a quote to get one to u. I got a few out the back which u can have cheap. Do u need the wishbones and all the bolton crap with it? I can also get it acid dipped for about $30 which will clean all the oil and crap off it.

The mounting point height is different apparently. Ill try and dig the old post later on and put a link to it.

    Cheers Tom

Ah ok. If I remember 2morrow I'll have a look and see if there is any differences. Manual steering and power steering columns are different tho. The lower section is the bit which is different, for the manual steering it's longer, and power steering it's shorter (coz the power rack is a bit taller).

But yeah, everything bolted up fine on my VK. The kframe came out of a VK (which had power steering), and the manual rack out of a VB/VC, and the steering column out of a VH which had manual steering.

I'll take some pics 2morrow if I remember, and I'll post them up.

Hi VHPirie, sorry ,I've been away for a few days. The VK I have is power steer. I am in Darwin. I have had stuff sent via Greyhound bus before if that helps. I haven't checked the local wreckers yet but things are getting scarce up here. I will need at least one lower control arm and a good radius rod as well as the power steer kframe. cheers
