    Default Modifying VB

Hey, as a first car im looking at a VB Commodore a) because i love commodores and b) theyre probably the cheapest haha... I was just wondering what modificiations you could recommend, remembering I am on my P's so I can't have turbo or a V8, so an engine transplant / turbo are a no no. I have already priced a set of Pacemaker Extractors and a Straight Through Sports Exhaust at around $900 for both + installation. But I am at a bit of a loss as to what else I can modify? Thanks a heap guys

AHHHHHHHH JUST COMMODORES....... I just wrote along post and it ***ed up.

Ok start again. That exhaust and extractors sounds a bit steep, shop around check ebay aswell you can always pick up a good second hand one. What ever you do dont go bigger then 2 1/4 inch otherwise you will lose back pressure.

Other simple mods i was going to do before vic changed their p-plate laws were:
Weber Carby, Thermo Fans, and electronic ignition if you dont already have one. Also keep an eye out for a second hand Yella Terra head.

Damn i had more ideas for you before.

    Cheers Tom

You can probably pick up a VN for the same price as a VB. A lot quicker in stock form too, less to do to make it go better.

Default VN is a no go hahah

LOL i reckon, i would love a VN, preferably a VS though, but my dad is a mechanic, has had 2 monaros and has a 6.7L V8 Kingswood, so consequently he has wizened up to young guys in fast cars, so a VN is a no go unfortuantely. But its probably better for my safety that way anyway. But i reckon a modded VB would be awesome, true they make about 70KW standard but they're pretty damn light so thats where the power to weight ratio comes in hehehe... The yella terra heads, are they not extractors? I thought headers were extractors, but Yella Terra is a term i hear a lot when reading about commies? Also, wot about cold air indcution ? Worth it or not?
    -Thanks,

hey mate, cold air induction would be pretty useless (if its just a 6).
Yella Terra make all sorts of gear from heads to induction setups for superchargers but what Tom was talking about was a head not headers, but yes extractors are headers but a head the intake and exhaust manifold hang off it and spark plugs etc (if u didnt already know lol)

if ur after a bit more power than u could go internal, eg. cam, pistons even some balancing if u wanted to rebuild it. or even if u could pick up a cheap 4 or 5spd manual if it hasnt already got one

My first car was a VB, I got it 7 years ago when i was 17, I still have it.
A definate mod is a set of extractors, stick to the standard 2" pipes I found a bigger pipe was wasted on a 6 cylinder. I also put a 2 barrel carb off a 253 on mine, made a huge difference.
Other than that, you really just need to do basic things like electric fans, gearbox cooler, electronic distributer and the like.
