Just wanting to know how hard and time it would approx take to change the cv joint.
Is it worth while doing the uni's aswell while the tailshaft is off the car.
Also anything to look out for as far as shortcuts or problems
thanks
The CV is pretty easy to change, it could probably be done in 30mins by someone with a little know how. The only fiddly part is the boot that stops dust getting in, uni's can be done at home with a good bench vice and some old sockets, but then you might want to have the tailshaft balanced afterwards.
As long as you mark the position of the two halves and they go back in the exact same position you won't need it balanced. I would do the uni's too while it was out for piece of mind.
Instead of getting a new CV joint have a machine shop make you a one piece tailshaft. I got one made for $200 balanced. From memory the CV was going to cost around $350. It was a little while ago so prices may have changed. With the one piece shaft, I had no problems with tailshaft/suspension travel conflicts, or vibration, and the car had a very hard life. As I said it was a couple of years ago so I dare say the prices may have changed somewhat. It was made for a VB 253, I'm not sure if the VH tailshaft is that much different.
