does anyone no what the largest capacity engine is that can legally go into a vb-vk? has anyone ever heard of a 350 oldsmobile or pontiac in a commodore, instead of a chev? what are some of the strangest conversion that you have seen?
One of the dirt circuit racers here put a Ford inline6 OHC thing into an oldskool Commy. That was about a year ago, and obviously wouldn't of been engineered coz they don't need to coz they're track use only.

i thought the 350's in them were made by chev anyway?
We got rep back, yaaay!
why would u not be able to get them on the road? they are the same capacity as a chev, so there is no problem there. chev, buick, oldsmobile and pontiac all made their own engines. all made a 350, all are completely different. the pontiac and olds have the starter on the left hand side, unlike the chev. iv read that a bloke has had a 403 olds in a vb. i think this was in vic n some years ago. perhaps no longer allowed.
Cause the VB-VKs never ever had the option for a 350, the emissions aren't correct, you need to get it engineered. Most automotive engineers won't pass a chev, oldsmobile, hemi in a VB-VK.
Now the strangest engine conversion i have heard was a 289 Windsor in a VB.

A lucky owner of 2 SL/E Commodores, a rare VB SL/E and a 2 tone VC SL/E. Just need a VH SL/E and have the set!
what about if you run it on gas research. then there should not be a problem?
Gas can be fine.
But do you know that you need to get engine mounts made? also other parts to make it fit in correctly?. To do what you want to do, you need a lot of coin.
With that coin, you could have a very tough Holden base 5 litre, either carby fed or EFI. Stock stroke or a stroker

im talking a decade or so back when the rage was to shovel a 350 chev in a vb-vk and when the laws were abit more relaxed...
and why would u drop in a an oldsmobile when u coulda had worked up chev
and getting it threw emissions today would be craptastic...
i mean u could go buy an gen 3 or stroke out a 5 litre for the money it would cost to get the 350 in there

A local here has a VB/VC wagon with a hiace diesel motor and 5 spd trans in it. The gears are all backwards. That's all been engineered....he's even customised the front struts to fit chunky tyres on it. Did it all himself, he said it took him 2 weeks, but lots of planning b4 hand.

all the 350s mounting position is exactly the same. so if som1 makes a kit for a chev into a vb-vk, then it can also be used with an olds. i cant see it costing a great deal. how hard can it be to fabricate some mounts that will pass an engineers report anyway? i have seen 403 olds for sale on ebay 4 $500, and not get a bid. i really do not think it would be an xpensive project. a problem mite be actually finding an engine
Last time i looked, the whole conversion kit for a 350 Chev into a VB-VK was about $4000. Then you have to get it engineered, another fair bit of $ gone.
To fabricate your own mounts, you need to be bloody good!

350 oldsmobile isnt the same as chev ( in wa i was told you are aloud 50 cub more than what the car came out with dont no if its the same over there)
IN NSW the formula for calculating maximum allowable engine capacity is the original tare mass of the vehicle in kilograms multiplied by .294.
So a Vb-VL V8 commodore would be 1275kg(from memory) x 0.294 = 374.85 cu in.
If you go to the RTA webside and do a search for VSI 06 you will find the relevent document.
