my 202 has a top end rattle. the bloke i got it from said the head had been done up. i checked the cam followers and they looked brand new. i then changed the pushrods and rocker arms, from an engine that didnt rattle. the rattle was still there tho. what could the problem be? worn cam? thanks
You probably need to set the lifter preload. Get number one cylinder at TDC then undo the two rocker pedestal bolts and check the gap between the bottom of the pedestal and the head with feeler guages. The gap should be 20 to 40 thou. You will need to either put washers under the pedestal to make the gap smaller or grind the bottom off the pedestal to make the gap larger. You push down on the pedestal with your hand when checking the gap. You need to do one cylinder at a time winding the engine over until the cylinder you are working on is at TDC then tighten the bolts up when you get the clearance right.
thanks, did it today, fixed the problem
